I notice Aircraft operating this morning (ES-NSD) to Dublin & Belfast has been substituted at Carlisle for the LM 607 to Suthend by another Saab A340 aircraft G-LGNC. Wonder if ES-NSD has gone tech on first day of Loganair operations ex Carlisle?

I think it was planned.

They could have used G-LGNC for the Belfast and back sectors, as it arrived in Carlisle at 11am, well before ES-NSD left for Belfast. So I doubt the change was anything other than planned.

I did wonder what LGNC was doing parked there when we got in! Did notice another Saab on the far side, assume that is Nyx’s spare that they’ve decided to have in Carlisle just in case? Good of them if so, allows a quick swap should anything happen, crew dependent.
Good to see an enthusiastic taxi driver on the free shuttle from/to town, who was very clued up on the whole operation and indeed dedicated to it for the three month trial.
Without wishing to be overly negative, I would be inclined to wait a few days before analysisng passenger numbers. Some tickets on the first day are sold because it's a new service (especially if an airport has been dormant for years) while other pax will not buy until they see the service start operating (especially if a previous launch was postponed)

I simply don't understand how the current frequency to London can possibly work, but I guess that (overall) they'll have been taking bookings for so long that they feel they have an idea how it's going to do and that they wouldn't have started it otherwise?

who knows
Again he said ' we have things in place Irvin the pipeline .
But as I've read the forum it's clear he was engaging in fantasy .
Perhaps Stobart's ' Ejets ' could offer ' Bucket and spade routes ' ( they did have some ).
But as with some Irish Airports and I noticed , Newquay, inbound tourism flights . Could CAX attract such inbound Tourist jets ?
The runway is still longer than Vagar with its extension ( and the declared lengths etc ) and Vagar manage to operate A319's and I read A few A320's us Norwegian 737-800 I'm guessing as I've not seen anything smaller .
But beyond that imho I'm struggling to see what chance it had of being a long term thing .I hope all our fears are unfounded as there IS a genuine big gap and potential to serve Southwest Scotland and the Far Southern Scottish border towns , right across to say Hexham .
Perhaps with an ILS and the declared landing lengths redone , plus restrictions removed .
There with the giant freight hub, might be a viable freight option ?
Is that pheasible ? .
Either way I wish it well, but that manager was dreaming , but still I'd love to see it prove us all wrong , with a nice selection of flights .
Finally could that Airport take the Ejets) A220's, as they are in the same class as the RJ100 size , like LCY .
Such Aircraft could operate all over .
Again would this work ?.
My apologies for the questions, but I prefer to ask rather than outright speculation.

No airport based car hire but passengers are met by a single car hire company which is a small local company whose booking website doesn’t work on my iPad. I have found that when there is little or no competition hire charges can be eye watering. At Luton I can pay half the price I do at Inverness for the same dates but even Inverness has from memory 3 car hire companies based at the airport

People power will decide but apart from the novelty of flying there seems alot of faffing around particularly when there are better alternatives from London. 4 flights a week at different random times of the day verses 2 trains an hour which would do the complete journey quicker than by air. Might come down to price in the end as the plane is often cheaper than the train with some train fares dearer than flying the Atlantic.
Train, check-in, wait in lounge, flight, minibus Vs Train. I would have to live close to Southend to make the plane the preferred method of travel. It will be interesting to see if the route becomes a summer only route as the Lake District is dead in the winter compared to the summer crowds.

All in time, I used to fly to Plymouth from memory there was no car hire desk there, but Avis , Europcar etc would deliver cars to the airport from the downtown office. Its not that unusual for hire companies to do that at smaller airports.

And no I'm not being sarcastic, this is a genuine comment.

Its very frustrating reading this thread on Carlisle hearing peoples negativity and showing little or no support for a new venture. We all know that small airports struggle especially in the beginning but whats to really say that Carlisle wont work.
Im sure some decent research in to passenger demand, routes and the right airline have gone in to the project. What this airport needs is support and positive views/suggestions to get it up and running. I live and work in the Lake District and can assure you that albeit the weather is less favorable in the winter tourism is booming and the winter moths are no exception. Carlisle is well situated for the whole of the Lake District, Cumbria and the Borders. Manchester, Liverpool, Newcastle and Glasgow are all lengthy journeys from the Lakes. Traffic to and from these airports is congested and expensive to use. Half the time trains from the Lakes to the airports don't run on time, run at inconvenient times and are always full and expensive to use. The comments I hear on the London route are all similar. You are not in central London, you have to get a train. When you fly into Heathrow you have to get on either a train or the tube. The train is the express train which comes at a price and the tube takes in the region of 45-50 minutes. Some suggest that the train from Southend is almost quicker than those other options with an average journey time of 56 minutes and less airport congestion and with fares starting from £5.
As the project leader of Carlisle said they are making baby steps and building up from the ground. They have a modern facility, good location and Loganair is a fantastic airline who is doing particularly well in the current climate. I wish Carlisle the best of luck and luck and look forward to flying out of there soon. I appreciate that most of my post is personal views but public support goes along way.

As a Carlisian, I wish them all the best in their endeavours, Long may it grow and prosper, at least something is being done with the place after years of indecision. The lakes and the scenery even from the airport is fantastic.

Unfortunately the CAX project is commented on by some here whose opinions are coloured by hostility to anything Stobart does and/or an apparent resentment of any success that SEN achieves. These two entities are, of course, linked to the plans for CAX so it is not being given an open-minded opportunity to show what it can achieve. As with everything time will tell how things actually go.

Well done and baby steps are the way forward in this climate. Some routes might flourish and others flounder. So what if they do. Look at how well LM have done out of the City of Derry airport. Baby steps for sure.
