Actually, Virginblue, while VLM's LCY ops didn't exactly help CityFlyer's LGW op, what killed the LGW ANR route was the Channel Tunnel.

It's been going on for a while now. The pile driving currently in progress in the KIng Georhe dock is a significant part of this, as both these items will extend over the dock. The discovery back last February of the unexploded bomb in the dock which closed the airport for a day was at the start of this work.

Came back in late last night from Scptland and the visibility was unlimited. From the extended LCY run in over Clacton/Southend you could see right over Kent to the lights of the northern French coast.

This morning the low cloud was not even halfway up the Canary Wharf high rises. What was the cloud base ? 200 feet if that.

See the METAR was down at 100 feet until 0800, then took a couple of hours to creep up. Southend must have been full, a string of diversions to Birmingham.

SEN took a few, Lufthansa, Luxair, Eastern Airways, etc but the KLM overshot when the fog rolled in and he went to Norwich.

Worse today. At 0830 cloudbase was about the top of the trees in my garden. Flybe sounded like the first to shoot an approach, at 1030, having delayed their departure from Edinburgh by 2.5 hours. Alas a go-around.

Last time Eastern operated this route, it didn't go too well, often operating with zero pax on the inbound to LCY and single figures back to NCL.
Hopefully it'll work out better this time round.

This is a good time to launch with BA NCL-LHR down to an average of 30 flights a week in Q1 2019 (compared to 46 a week recently and 39 a week provisionally next summer). Good luck to them.

Have you any explanation to offer as to the rediculous historical figures on the route?

Also has anything changed to suggest the route can work?

I used this route a few times back in the day and it was about 50% full each time, but as with all Eastern fares it was ridiculously expensive, the benefit of the slightly shorter journey time, once you factor in security times, were easily offset by the advantage of 1st class rail with inclusive food, wi-fi etc. The quoted fares of £80 in the press release could make it viable, but the J41 is still an awful aircraft so the train will definitely be more comfortable! Hope it works though as it is good to have options.

I believe it's a Saab 2000 they are using for the route.
