Looks like Jet 2 are more in tune with Glaswegian's requirments. Their Edinburgh destinations are much the same, holiday routes.
Ryanair have a high load of City routes from both whose users are more likely to consolidate into using EDI.
Ryanair's Prestwick destinations are more holiday orientated as well so just more available seats on the designated resort's arrival day.

I believe that for some destinations there is a single day on which most holiday properties change over. For many years all flights to Lanzarote were on a Thursday, for example.

Traditionally package holiday destinations would receive flights from particular countries or operators on the same day. It meant one big changeover which made selling one and two week stays easier, and meant reps and coaches were in place to ferry to and from the airport. You still see it today to a lesser extent.

I suspect it's utter nonsense to say FR removal from FRA route will benefit LH. Totally different market and time will tell if LH remain themselves. History tends to say otherwise. RYR have had issues with GLA previous and are using this "reason" as a scapegoat I would suggest.

I have always thought this as a great, forward thinking solution that would create infra jobs, and present Scotland indeed with a possible competitive airport...alas this will never be for lotsa reasons...shame though. In UK generally it takes years to even try and build a runway in south East never mind and airport...oh well...

Well apparently Glasgow and Edinburgh will eventually merge to become one 'supercity'. Perhaps then we would see a new airport. https://www.scotsman.com/news/glasgo...ades-1-4648092

No, if the Scottish Government has its way you will still have two airports, they will just be Edinburgh East and Edinburgh West (and maybe Prestwick will become Edinburgh South).

Precisely, maybe the SG can build a mock-up castle on the Campsies and have a zoo full of pandas next to the old India of Inchinnan building and we can have inbound tourism too !

Only if you are happy to pay world class airfares as the cost of providing the facilities would be passed on to the airlines and passengers through higher landing charges. Having only one airport also would also mean there is a monopoly with no competition enabling them to increase charges even more.

Not necessarily. If one is smart with the procurement such s plan could be very lucrative. I don't see also too many negatives at Amsterdam nor Brussels either... particularly when you considerat Brussels over the years they have steadily regrouped.

The British concept of “competition” half works in my view, compare with AENA in Spain. The locos remain price competitve in market and the public facilities are decent. Not so “pint in a half pint” that is LGW/STN/LTN or MAN/LPL/LBA.
We have no strategy and it’s left to the open market.
