Unfortunately it's not just Mr Brady that some of us consider to be misguided as shown by the article below.
The first comment by a reader after the article is perhaps a fair reflection of the concerns of those of us that see a risk (I put it no stronger) of MAN being adversely affected in terms of long haul routes, passengers and jobs. If there was such an adverse effect for MAN, I'm not convinced it would be outweighed in the North West by, for example, LPL getting a few shuttle flights to LHR.

Yes, 3rd November 2016 is the start date, every other Friday. Obviously a 'gauging demand' operation before hopefully a weekly flight in 2017.
Melbourne, Florida also showing in the drop down menu on the flights website, will be interesting to see what that one is all about!

Oh those were the days, 20 years ago - Britannia 767s to Sydney & Auckland also Airtours International 767s to Sydney - all from MAN. I went on GSJMC ( now G-TCCA) MAN- BAH-SIN-SYD, all from MAN. Why did they stop? Always full, not very comfortable - but cheap & quicker than interlining through a hub.

Just to clarify, it's not the Melbourne in Australia that is showing on the Thomson flights website, it is the Melbourne in Florida.
Incidentally, Manchester recently had a flight from Melbourne, FL, when a Transaero B747 came from storage there to be painted into Kabo air colours.

They stopped because Thomson could fly three regular flights for the time it took one bus-stop route to Oz to get there and back and for more revenue. Oz is now an ME3 fortress, you can't have all those EK/EY/QR heavies in a day and still expect SA/MK/QF etc.
Name one carrier you think would leave MAN for LHR, or even downsize in favour of LHR? Cathay are finally back on side, the ME3 continue to dominate, the US carriers don't have many gaps in the their LHR coverage. I honestly think we need to move on and be confident in MAN standing on it's own feet.

As well as Phuket, Thomson have also added Dubai World Central from November 2016.
Will be once weekly every Tuesday throughout the winter. With extra flights on certain Monday's thought winter too.
Seems to be a much bigger schedule than expected, as the press release seemed to indicate just a handful of departures for the cruises.

Even more surprising is that the "New Routes" list on the airport website already has the Thomson flights listed. Also says that Goa is new?! But the easyJet routes aren't listed but have been tweeted.

Wow that was quick news. Even the new Easyjet routes are not on there yet. Shame the new DWC isn't on there either given its a larger than expected schedule.
A guy called Adam Jupp has been shipped in from the MEN to run the MAN press department, and he has been quite passionate about talking MAN up in the past, so, maybe we are about to see a new era where no new route goes unnoticed.

We can hope it is going to be the case, looks as if TOM and TCX are
going to be very busy on long haul next summer and I am led to believe
from a friend in TCX there is more to follow over next year or so with maybe more aircraft

QR has extended the 777 upgrades to the end of the year.
The lunchtime QR45/46 is now a daily 77W for the whole of December. The early morning and evening flights are a mixture of B77L and A332.
Also Turkish are upgrading to A330 on the morning flight from 18-21 December.

If their booking engine is to be believed (and during October it was good at predicting flights with a 777, and which were -300s and which were -200s, but less good with 787s) then the lunchtime flight will be a 787 from tomorrow until the 26th. The other flights in that period are 777s, split roughly 1/3 -200s and 2/3 -300s.
Out of interest do they qualify crews on both 777s and 787s, or will they have to position 787 crews in for tomorrow? If the latter it would suggest that they would need to know more than 24 hours in advance what will operate a flight, which with the planned 787s wasn't reflected in the booking engine on their website.
