Southend Airport to offer free trips (From Echo)

Of course this offer has no real commercial significance and it could be said that any publicity that gets the attention of the airport's target audience is to be applauded. And I don't think LHR and LGW will be adding a discussion on this challenge to the agenda of their next meeting.

But I hope Stobart don't start moaning if, come October, FR decide - 'just for the craic' - to offer a free flight to DUB from STN/LGW/LTN to anyone who has been delayed flying to Ireland from SEN.

Mrs DC has just looked up from her smartphone and spoke - a rare event in itself....... Apparently, it's reached her via Facebook 'friends' that Southend Airport is offering free flights etc.... Perhaps I'm underestimating the power of publicity.

I was going to post this in the Wizzair section, but thought it was more suitable for here.

I recall the brazilian airline GOL took a short field version of the 73H. The press release talks about airfields less than 5000 feet, specifically an airfield in Rio at 4300 feet ~1300 meters. The press release is suitable vague on details, at one point suggesting "full payloads" but later that 2-4000lb increase could be expected. It would seem that the 73H could make it into and out of SEN - how far it could get I don't know. I know FR blocked ~30 seats at BHD when they started. BHD has a declared take-off length of 2299m for take-off. I think they later did sell at 189 seats, but flights were predominately to mainland UK airports.

Fire has now been put out, no effect on flights and no aircraft inside the hangar either.

ssb. Your obvious concern for the well being and safety of the hangar staff at the SEN based enterprise is much appreciated. Phoenix like it will rise from the ashes.

Planespeaking.....okaaay....I did begin by saying yes & good that the fire was out & no a/c were inside & airfield ops were normal....& yes perhaps I should have noted commiserations for any affected staff so I will add that now...BTW how many staff are affected?...no reporting is mentioning staff either...Not in mitigation but I do recall in Air Livery`s earlier history employees were more contractors & moved around sites/hangars that Livery could get space in or convenient work at..What was the latest work there?..perhaps easyJet.....I get the impression from all the reports the place was empty at the time...

June's passenger statistics show an increase of 30% on last year's figure. That's an encouraging start for the new routes.

Thanks ssb. Could be new hangar time, depending on the insurance. I don 't know staff numbers but so far no injuries have been reported to my knowledge.

I've heard that hangar is only used by Air Livery as an overflow for their one at NWI. Can anyone confirm?

That's more or less the situation I think. I believe they had a six month programme of easyJet resprays lined up for this winter as they did last year.

Not when you look at the routes individually, my quick 'back of a fag packet' analysis suggests good figures for Prague and Zadar, decent for Vienna, Budapest and Dubrovnik and mediocre to poor for the rest. Of course there were cancellations so some true figures may be better than I thought

By my calculations the best performing routes were VIE, DBV, PRG, BUD, ZAD, LYS and VCE in that order.

Does anyone have an idea of what effect the new routes will have on annual pax numbers? The target is 2m by 2018 - does that look achievable?

Summer 2017 seat capacity on the 11 new routes is around 36,000/month if that helps.

Err, not really no, but thank you however for the figures. From what I can see the annual figures for 2017 will be the 875k total for 2016 plus circa 120k for the new summer season routes. So circa 1m or is that too optimistic? Have the legacy routes over or under performed when compared to 2016?
