Wallp you are correct about Wizzair and 321s, wether this may affect this summer and LTN I do not know.
WIZZ AIR PARTIALLY CONVERTS AIRCRAFT ORDER TO A321
I'm aware of yet another carrier that may still add additional capacity also this summer.

Alloy, do you mean an existing carrier or a new one?
I guess that sooner or later we can expect to see A321's on some of the Wizz routes to Luton, presumably Warsaw, Budapest & other high density routes.
Powerjet1 that's interesting about the Knock route. I don't know why Ryanair doesn't do more in terms of Irish routes from Luton. Shannon & Cork seem obvious choices. I know they are served by them from STN but if Knock can do so well from LTN & STN, why not other Irish routes?

I bought a copy of the 75th anniversary of Luton Airport book yesterday. The book is 125 pages and is worth the money just for the old photos I have never seen before.
The text is a bit lacking but the book itself will become a historical document as even some of the photos of the present will become photos of the past as the years pass.

I was thinking of Thomson, Monarch & easyJet on the basis of Luton being their home base/head office which does not apply to Ryanair & Wizz. I'm interpreting the meaning of 'a LTN based carrier'. Maybe I'm wrong, we'll see.
According to the Monarch thread on here there'll be 2 A321's & 3 A320's at Luton. Has all that capacity now been accounted for or is there more to come?

Carpatair
Looks pretty much definite that Carpatair are not coming back to Luton with a Chisinau route. Luton is no longer listed as a destination on the airline website. Also Carpatair have just announced a route from Lublin in Poland to Rome, which strikes me as somewhat random.
The ongoing bankruptcy proceedings are probably not a good thing either.
Think that Carpatair is unlikely to be beneficial to Luton airport.

Any airline is beneficial to the airport as long as they pay their fees and bring in some sort of revenue. Having said that, it was always pretty much a joke of an operation and the airline doesnt seem to have much of a future so it really looks like in this case its a "lose them just before they disappear" kind of scenario.
The little guessing game above, Thomson could really do better at their long time base but they have never really seemed all that interested. I would go with Wizz and then Wizz again but they are not based so... cough cough splurt.

Runway08 I agree. Never really understood why Thomson pay so little attention to their home base. Of course I wouldn't expect it to compare with their LGW operation but something more than 3 based planes in summer could surely be feasible?
So the guessing game continues, I'm still thinking easyJet. I guess time will tell

It would seem Luton's runway has just grown a little from 2160m (7087ft) to 2162m.(7093ft)
The landing distance for 26 has increased by 5m to 2080m. I have never understood why Luton has a displaced threshold on 26 when the runway is on top of a hill

In the early days there were a lot of tall trees in the undershoot, I can only assume that was the reason, and once the ILS GP gets planted it is difficult to move. Landing Distance isn't critical.
I'd be interested to know how squeezing an extra 2m out of the overall distance can increase the LD by 5m. I once had all the distances checked, perhaps they have a new ruler.

That is a very good question. Didn't the runway get built up at that end a few years ago to reduce the hump in the middle. Maybe the ILS is sitting slightly lower now and someone has only just done the calculations?
