not a good journey - almost laughable actually at the chain of events but sometimes in this business it really does go WRONG lol

still he and his fellow pax will get the 400e EU delay compo if they apply plus a pile of Avios if he is an Exec club holder and squeaks loudly

Looks like this is the London end of the string of incidents to Athens flights I described above.

The 777 return to base appears to have been due to an engine surge.

I wonder when upper management finally clicked in, overrode Alex Cruz's "save money every day" blandishments, and managed to operate what then seem to have been a whole string of extra Athens flights late on the Wednesday and into Thursday to sort out the backlog.

I wonder if the BA statement "we provided refreshments" was what I got at my last delay at T5, a £5 (yes) voucher, which not only would not cover a coffee and a pastry but was airily declined when I presented it at the Pret-a-Manger right by the T5 domestic departure gates with "oh, we don't accept those". Wherever else are you meant to spend it ?

From memory BA used to give £5 vouchers back in the 70's for various delays.

£5 bought you quite a lot at the airport back in the 70's lol

last weekend Titan was delayed at MAN to ATH 8 hours - they could have told the Cunard pax the night before as they knew they were subbing in from Euro Atlantic in Lisbon.

but they let the pax arrive at 0700 and they left at 1600 - they got £15 vouchers to spend which does not buy you that much for all day at MAN airport

had they delayed the pax the night before they were not obliged to give vouchers so they could have saved £15 x 262 pax

pax still can claim 400e EU delay compo as in the case of the BA LHR ATH 33 hour fiasco

BA have announced today a return to Seychelles. Twice a week from LHR in a 787-9. Last time I did that trip (in reverse), it was a VC10!

Wonder whats in mind for the A321Neo order with WW announcement they could be used for transatlantic routes?
Presumably thin extra routes from London and no fanciful theories of regional departures with a multiclass offering.

But maybe BA need to be wary of others using NEOs and MAXs to offer these routes instead. United or Delta have made lots of money on transatlantic 757s, to many regional airports. The NEOs and MAXs might just press this further.

BA have stuck to the LHR hub concept for a long time, but perhaps they need to consider that we might be seeing a big shift coming. Or maybe they are already there!

No idea what th order is about but extre routes ex London means extra (expensive) slots and I'm not sure they are that easy to come by.

LHR slots can 'appear' at a moments notice, no fear with that. Think LBA, INV if needed.
SEZ, US routes etc...

Perhaps LGW has a role in this, non-stop to London from lesser cities such as Cleveland to combat the likes of Wow and avoid the stop in Iceland. With some onward connections to EDI/AMS etc to boost viability.

Possibly some thin transatlantic routes to Hartford, Pittsburgh, or Columbus/Cleveland etc but I imagine the bulk of the order will be short haul.

Being BA I can't see any of the frames going to the regions, with their continued focus to use LHR as a hub for connecting passengers from the east of the airport to the Americas.

I agree with the above post... BA have an opportunity to get ahead of the game. I imagine in the next 10 years the majority of flights to the North east coast of USa will be flown on narrow bodies, by an array of LCC's as seen with Norwegian and Primera from regional airports. If I was WW I would consider looking into using the neos from regional airports to NY/Boston etc, possibly where BA already have their foot in the door from domestic flights or even weekend cityflyer flights.

Yes but look at the equipment being used on the likes of SEZ/US routes.....I'm far from sure it make any sense to use a neo of some sort on LHR long thin long haul route. TBH I doubt any news would be destined for BA, they would be an IAG order and no doubt tagged for use elsewhere in the group.

Okay those at the back of the bus have to wait till everyone in front seated, or do they have to push and barge past in the ever narrowing corridor whilst annoying the business ticket holders folding their coats and storing their day cases and laptops whilst also hogging to limited overhead luggage space.!

Going to improve boarding times - Think not imho !
