BA 747

I flew MAN - LHR - SYD a couple of years ago and the experience of that decrepit economy seat, tatty interior and defective ICE convinced me never to stray away again from the superior product that Middle East carriers offer from MAN.

P.S The crew were lovely though

Good point, Emirates send their new metal to MAN, not something a lot of places see with A330s and B777-200s that really need some TLC. SYD now sees the B777-300ER so on that particular route, the product is brand new nowadays.

I've been a frequent traveller (always in economy) between EWR and the UK for 10 years now. Initially it was BA without question, but due to the CO service from BRS initially, and then the realisation that the service, and particularly the IFE, was far better on CO/UA, its UA all the time now. The $20 - $30 for a cocktail and a couple of bottles of wine with lunch is well worth it.

BA also diverted B747 G-CIVL and B767 G-BNWZ to Birmingham late yesterday afternoon from Heathrow, a while since we had had a BA 747 in.

ALL NAMES TAKEN

At some point over the past 3/4 days SEN must have had every one of BAs CITY FLYERS at our airport, due to the fog at LCY.For an airport of our size 14 aircraft is a very welcome sight, not to mention the extra income{landing, handling fees overnight parking etc etc etc}.lets hope for more fog and diverts to SEN

Yes I'm sure that's what the passengers who actually want to fly to LCY are hoping for too

The loads on LHR-SYD are usually excellent especially since the 2x daily drop. Not a hope in hell they would drop it.

QF also have a code share partnership with EK so don't think BA would allow them to have a sniff either.

There's also a rumour BA could be dropping the code share with QF.

Elsewhere on this forum it's been suggested that since QF left One World their loads are not good, especially QF1 & QF5. Worse still their status has been 'junked' in the financial world. It seems EK have what they want and the only thing left is operating Trans Pacific routes.

If you mean QF's code on BA shorthaul routes to/from LHR, many of those have already stopped, leaving only about 10 codeshared routes still in operation.

QF have not left OW, They are still a member.

IMHO BA would be better to get into an agreement with MH for Oz routes as they severe ADL, BNE, DRW, MEL, PER & SYD in addition to their own SYD via SIN.

Since the BA/QF JV to Australia ended BA have been doing well with the 77W, didn't they recently state that it was the most improved route on the network ?

Also BA currently codeshare with CX to some Australian cities as well as some QF codeshares which are still in place, BA codes on QF metal and QF on BA.

Trouble is it's not the load factor it's the yield that determines viability of a route.

The 'pointy bit' has never really been great on the Oz routes and due to the length of route it is hard to make the numbers add up.

I wonder what useage of the aircraft BA could make if it dropped the route.

It's more the distance, it's flying a "standard" long haul flight twice just top get there and the same on the way back, however they're not able to charge twice the price for the pleasure. However they can get that revenue by using the aircraft into a market where it can be more productive each day, charging a higher price per passenger for the distance traveled without the need to slip crews or refuel en route.

I hope it stays though.

this latter part is why BA have swapped it to B77W (lower seat cost) and swapped the crew to mixed fleet (much lower crew cost) to see if they can keep it running.

Shame though, was soo much nicer on the upper deck of the B744 than in Club of the B77W

F-class escorting from plane to baggage

Simple question really - does BA escort it's F cabin passengers from the plane through passport control and on to baggage collection?
