BIRMINGHAM - 6
I think both airports have a head of steam going now and are set for bigger better things as it going to be years before London airorts can start to expand again
and I`m sure UK plc don`t want to lose any business to Europe so are making things a bit easier especially on the Chinese side.

Can't speak for Bhx but in the case of Manchester did we not have it rammed down our throat that all these airlines would go to Amsterdam Frankfurt Paris?
Surely shome mistake. ......☝

I agree with the majority of things written on here, there's some toot, but it's great to see the airports other than London finally making proper headway in the industry - Bhx is lagging behind MAN somewhat but the growth of both airports is turning to be very interesting.
I disagree hugely with the earlier comment about the market not being large enough to support the route year round. People said the same about BHX and Emirates when it started - and now lots of interesting rumours about the evening going to a 380 too.
Just a final thought:
Hainan to MAN
Capital to BHX
Tianjin to LGW
All HNA group airlines...

Very good point Bagso, there does indeed seem to be mounting evidence air traffic growth is finding its way to the regions of the UK in the face of a full SE, and not being lost to mainland Europe, as some would have us believe. I don't think we have seen the end of it either....and about time too.
And still the politicians can't or won't make their minds up regarding expansion in the South East. This in turn is good news for both BHX and MAN. Lets hope Norwegian develop their long haul product in the regions.
The thing is once one thing happens it starts to snowball and I can see it happening already at both BHX and MAN so lets make sure all the infrastructure is there ready,I
know things are happening at MAN now but are things at BHX, you only need 3 or 4
A330 aircraft sat for 5 or 6 hours and ramp space is eaten up very quickly

Airport capacity in England

The usual pattern is for capacity constrained airports to push away charters, main deck freighters and Corporates. Look at LHR, LGW and DXB for evidence.
The other symptom is use of remote bases to get access to constrained airports later in the day. You can see both RYR & EZY using this technique for Gatwick.
It is only a matter of time before Luton start to push away the corporate operators too, probably to Farnborough, Cambridge, Bournemouth. Again signs of this already.
The recent Thomson long haul announcements for BRS are also likely partly due slot availability at LGW.
The main deck freighters will increasingly use EMA, located at the centre of the UK logistics and distribution industry.
Growth in England south of Manchester will continue, despite the lack of London Runway and Stand capacity. BHX and BRS will benefit most.

Winter 16/7 & summer 17
Very difficult to keep up with all the releases/changes/upgrades these days!
Swiss - winter 2016/7
The C Series is now in the timetable for the weekend flights from 30 October Sunday evening and Saturday morning so a modest increase to 125 seats.
Norwegian - winter 2016/7
Completely lost as to what they had released but at present Tenerife and Malaga bookable both Monday and Friday.
I assume Las Palmas will be released as it increases to twice weekly in the first week in October. Madrid and Barcelona are not bookable as yet.
Summer 2017 Thomson
I thought at first a 7th based short-haul as 7 required some days but only one flight on those days and I assume it will be re-organised to 6. None of the aircraft operate to other UK bases so a definite increase also two out of the three Malaga's are operated by a third party as are two Palma's, the only Bodrum, one Antalya and one Dalaman. It is possible if all third party flying was moved in-house it might make 7.
New or re-instated flights are Alghero and Almeria, the former was part of an unfortunate BHX press release last April (for this summer), which saw 4 out of 5 new routes fail to materialise (AHO, AGA, SPU & ADB). AGA was then to be a second RAK but a 4th CFU got added instead. ADB no doubt lost out due to the general down-turn in Turkish bookings but no idea why AHO & SPU never happened as overall there is an extra aircraft based with mostly additions to Spain.
Summer 17 sees the 787 fly 6 days a week - come on Thomson you know want to add a new route or frequency. I trust if it doe not fly it will be an operational spare or maintenance day rather operating from another UK airport for just one day.

The stranglehold that EK has on these two airports for travelling east and on the kangaroo route is more likely to have inhibited other carriers starting routes. Good to see this changing, at last.

Two outcomes are possible: more pressure on, and competition for, EK, and/or a general growth in pax numbers as new journeys become available and easier, particularly for discretionary travel.

Heard on another forum that the route development team have been talking to Delta and Delta handling agents have been talking to BHX staff...one to watch.
Apparently the inaugural flight was 91% full. Hopefully this is just down to a tech issue as the flight is delayed until 1520.

Toulouse
Looks like Flybe might be re-introducing this route according to a conversation on Twitter. There was a page in their inflight magazine with a list of all their BHX routes, and Toulouse was shown with a start date of September 1.

I've never posted on this section of PPRuNe before, so I hope my question isn't irrelevant.
My wife and I are flying from Newquay to Birmingham with FlyBE in the near future, with the remainder of our trip by rail. We'll just have hand baggage. I'm trying to find out just how long its likely to take from sceheduled landing time to getting to the railway station for our onward trip. My wife walks with a stick so we wont be able to rush. My normal experience is on overseas trips and having to factor in baggage retrieval, customs and immigration etc, so I'm hoping as none of these apply we might be through and away pretty sharpish.
Anyone with local knowledge help?

Agree with what jfy1999 says above. From the Flybe arrivals area to the Air Rail people mover would be about 10 minutes if slow walking. Just follow the signs for the Air Rail and Birmingham International Railway Station. The Air Rail drops you a short walk from the ticket barriers and booking office at the railway station.

Merely to add to the above two posts and to give a plug to the airport, transitting from plane to train at BHX must surely be the easiest and quickest of any major airport in the UK.

I can't say how long the customs will take. It's likely to be a very short time if it's on a domestic flight during a quiet time of the day.
