FlyBE Next Summer...
it seems any pipe dreams of FlyBE moving their London base to LTN are dashed...
They have released their summer schedule up until mid July 2014, and Jersey will be operating 4x Weekly and Isle of Man 5x Weekly.
I notice the Isle of Man and Jersey routes are only operating between April and October is this the norm? I thought previous years, these had flown all year round, but with a slightly reduced schedule, compared to the summer months.

giles - I thought that in Jan/Feb earlier this year, Flybe did either a very significant reduction or possibly even a suspension of some of their routes at Luton. Then again, my body ain't what it used to be and the mind plays funny tricks...

Flybe
Flybe did suspend flights over part of last winter for, I think, the first time. I believe this winters suspension starts earlier from end of October? Hopefully when they no longer have Gatwick flights, they'll offer a year round operation from Luton? Surely Jersey & especially Isle of Man could sustain year round services?
Boeing 737-8, you say Newquay is a possibility. Where's this coming from? Didn't Aer Arran try & fail with that route a few years back? It'd be a nice route to have but I wonder if there's much chance of it working this time?
Waterford seems a much more obvious choice, I'm amazed it hasn't yet started.

Yes, or course new routes could be added, and if Flybe were to start a NQY route, it would be the only one from the London area, aside from a very seasonal (July to Sept only) EZY operation from SEN.
Don't forget, a few years ago there were Air Southwest flights from LGW (4 daily I think, albeit shared with PLH) and Ryanair flights from STN (up to 2 daily, on a 738) - I can't see that all of that demand has disappeared.

That should please all those ´´Italians´´ in the Bedford area who have relations in the region as long as the prices are competitive. Reminds me of Britannia, Altair and British Midland running regular charters on Saturdays to Naples.

Monarch also did a lot of charters to Naples- regular Saturday morning departure in 70s or early 80s ( anyone help me out) with a One Eleven. On hot summer days had to use actual pax. weights to make sure they had the performance to get airborne. Nice to see it back and I think it'll do well for them - provided they promote it.
Monarch did do a lot of flights to Italy when they had the 1-11s, I assume Naples was one of those destinations. However, they were still flying to Naples in 1989 using a Boeing 737-300, although it went via Palermo, using a Berlin Regional a/c in full Monarch colours.

Flights
Wycombe, I didn't realise there were so few options to get to Newquay. Perhaps Flybe could make it work from Luton though I'm doubtful
Mart901, it can only be a matter of time before someone adds Waterford surely? I agree about BHD too Although easyJet have the BFS flights, I can't see why both couldn't work.
Great news about Monarch to Naples. It seems they are targeting the Italian leisure market much more now. With Rome already served it would be good to see more routes added - Palermo, Cagliari, Catania all spring to mind

Monarch did a lot of flying to Italy on behalf of a tour operator which I think was called Saint Seal. The One-Eleven bore the brunt of it, latterly to the more northern destinations, but the 720B, and eventually the 737s and 757s all participated.
Naples was particularly challenging for the One-Eleven every half degree less Celsius and extra knot of headwind was gratefully accepted, so I'm told.
I think you mean Berlin European's 737-35B G-EURP.
You are indeed correct, it's my age the old memory is not as good as it was!
The flight was flown by 2 ex BA Captains, ( I was on the jump seat), both had retired from BA at 55, whether it was one the ones who started it or not I don't know. I know it was a laugh a minute because they were doing it for the love of flying!
