Monarc Expansion
Nice to see the new route to Naples appear, the airport is developing a nice little Italian network now...
Going back about a decade ago, we only had the Ryanair, Bergamo service now we got.
Milan
Venice
Pica
Rome
Naples
Trapani
Alghero
Olbia
Shame we didn't see some of the other routes Monarch has launched from the other airports. Enfidha and Hurghada would have been nice additions, also if Monarch had launched them from Luton, they wouldn't be going head to head with other airlines like they will be at Gatwick.

That won't be good for passengers unless they are spread out more throughout the year.
10m very possible.
11m, I doubt it - at this stage. These new routes are low frequency on 73s or A320 series aircraft. In order to get up to these levels, you'd need more routes on higher frequencies.

Looks like there is still plenty of slack to be filled with the fifth aircraft on some day. All day Sunday, and most afternoons, so could be a handful more routes to come.
Got me thinking where else they could fly to, maybe destinations proven to work for the airline from other bases and not currently flown from the airport as a schedule service at present. I thought of Almeria, Antalya, Dubrovnik and Funchal.
I also realised by checking this, Monarch don't work their aircraft as hard as other airlines. Many of the departures are not until 7-8am in the morning, and some flights are back my 9.30-10pm at night. Also they have far longer turnaround times of atleast an hour. Where Ryanair and easyJet's are 25-40mins.

Following Buster's comment on Tarom, and having flow the LTN-Bacau and LHR-Iasi routes very recently, I hope I might add my thoughts.
Bacau airport and the international terminal in Iasi are little more than small sheds and totally inadequate for 737s with 120 people - forget about a 189 seat 737-800. The passenger base is 90% or more of people who speak Romanian fluently. While both Bacau and Iasi have large and fancy shopping malls (look up Palas Mall in Iasi), neither city is wealthy - both look pretty run down in the city centre - there is more money in Iasi than Bacau.
Tarom flying Heathrow-Iasi is bonkers. The only international routes at Iasi are driven very much around migrant labour destinations or to Vienna as the first hub heading west . The flight I took had economy 85% full of people who looked like they had some money - no need for 48 hours on a bus. The 2 row of business class seats which occupies about the same space as 3 rows of economy seats were empty - thus potentially 18 economy seats effectively unsaleable.
The London-Iasi route clearly has demand and Luton or possibly Stansted is the right UK airport. Unless the Romanian airports invest in some infrastructure, 30 min turnarounds are not going to work. However, flying an aircraft with 2 rows of business class seats will struggle as well unless fares remain on the high side - if Iasi's runway is long enough, there is a clear opportunity for Wizz to undercut

No AOC, no airport slots, no aircraft, no money. 90 days process of issuing an AOC recently re-started as they just managed to present post holders and a "more than 1000 pages long" business plan. HgFAA says that information announced about investors (Oman/Dubai) earlier "are not in line with reality" (a bigger country over the sea?). Planned schedule is still kept as a secret to "avoid giving the plans away to the competition".
2 aircraft are painted in BOH, the first one had a 2 hours visit to BUD on 18AUG, returned to BOH "for spare parts" where it is parked since. Second aircraft painted 3-4 weeks ago is parked in BOH as well minus its engines (as of 28SEP). 3rd aircraft supposed to go to Solyom was painted all white, parked in BOH as well. No word about the other 3 aircraft yet (6 was announced as the first batch of delivery - all turned out to be 20-22 yo B735s). Meanwhile they started to "build a network of companies supplying food chains with top quality Hungarian commodities". They announced plans to sell mineral water, jam and cooking oil. So far the only thing they started to sell is flour (not made in Hungary) in some TESCOs.
Initially their CEO announced that they would use RJ85s for regional flights. Later on he said the plan was cancelled as the "type is currently not available on the market". 2 weeks ago it was announced that he'd connect BUD with small Hungarian airports (Gyor-Per, Pecs, Debrecen etc) to create connecting traffic (to what?). He wants to have "factory new" A-340s in 2014 (despite the type is not in production for like 2 years already). Ha says 4 engine aircraft being phased out by other airlines and scrapped is "only politics" and those can be operated "economically". A week ago he announced that they will start either on 01NOV or 01DEC (altough he did not state which year).
