Here are some comments regarding Montreal from Travel Mole:

Air Canada continues its international expansion from Montreal next summer led by the addition of new Air Canada rouge service between Montreal and Venice," said Benjamin Smith, president of passenger airlines at Air Canada.

His reinforces Montréal-Trudeau Airport as a strategic hub and international gateway for Air Canada, connecting its Québec, Atlantic Canada and US networks with its European routes," he added.

Air Canada rouge services to Athens will double to four times a week and to Barcelona to three-times weekly from Montreal.

Just came across this which seemed to pass us by.

Mr MANFOD will be pleased !

Ryanair set for major growth at Manchester Airport | Insider Media Ltd

In an interview with Insider, Kenny Jacobs, chief marketing officer of Ryanair, said the agreement will have a huge boost for Manchester Airport.

Jacobs said: "Manchester in the past five years has become the second city to London and that is only going to continue in the next five years. A lot of companies are relocating to the region.

"A lot of these planes will end up in Manchester"

With regards that last line I dare dare say they suggest that to EVERY airport...... but its a positive !

Not sure this link will work but - see below

Dublin transfer traffic UP 34%. They are now shifting over 100K a month !

Thank you Bagso. This seems to be a slightly fuller version of what appeared in the M.E.N a couple of weeks ago.

Just picked out some relevant bits:

As business and leisure travel continues to grow we'll have 200 weekly flights from Manchester by 2015.

"A lot of these planes will end up in Manchester which is growing faster than our growth rate in the rest of the UK. Our UK growth rate is 5 per cent compared to Manchester’s growth rate of 10 per cent. Next year we'll have around 2.7 million passengers in Manchester compared to 2.4 million in 2014. "The only thing holding us back at the moment is the lack of aircraft. It's great that we've got a platform for the next ten years."

"Stansted is fantastic for us," said Jacobs. "Next year we'll have 17 million passengers in and out of Stansted. That's our biggest airport."

"A quarter of our 86 million passengers are business travellers," he said.

There are a number of things which struck me from these extracts.

Ryanair are serious about expansion at MAN.

"200 weekly flights in 2015". I think someone worked out that the schedules as currently loaded amount to 203 departures a week. Nevertheless, there must be a fair chance that more flights will be announced.

Ryanair with 17 million pax at STN is about 80% of that airport's total. From MAG's perspective, it is hardly ideal to have so many eggs in one basket.

If the figure of 86 million pax in total for Ryanair is correct, STN & MAN would appear on the surface to represent nearly 25%, but presumably the 86m would not double count pax travelling between say STN & DUB or MAN & DUB.

I have to say Ryanair's growth at MAN since their return has been impressive and it's to MAN's credit that they, albeit belatedly, realised the considerable potential of the low cost market, even if it squeezed some existing carriers.

Fear not, there will be announcements soon about growth at STN from an airline that isn't Ryanair (STN after all is now part of the MAG Group).

Not that poor old Lord Blackadder of the twitter sphere appreciates the news, based on his immediate feedback. Who could he be, I wonder ?

‏@LrdBlackAdder
@TheHUBRoutes @STN_Airport hope its not a route that COULD have come to Manchester ....!

Did we establish if there was any lobbying of our esteemed leaders and shadow leaders at the conferces.

APD still seems to be having influences in a number of ways !

Ryanair set for major growth at Manchester Airport
Is T3 at MAN capable of accommodating any more RYR expansion ? - I would say not. Perhaps a Terminal re-shuffle might be on the cards again.

Bagso, a little bit of googling wouldn't come amiss. 22nd September fringe meeting:

"The Aviation Reception

Supported by AOA, easyJet, Manchester Airport Group and Sustainable Aviation
21.30-23.45, Midland Hotel Derby Suite
Mary Creagh MP (Shadow Secretary of State for Transport), Tim Hawkins (Corporate Affairs Director, Manchester Airport Group), Sophie Dekkers (UK Director, easyJet), Emran Mian (Director, SMF)"

and twotter feed:

Manchester Airport @manairport · Sep 23
We're also at #lab14 today. At #ConnectedCities. Integrating high speed rail n/s & e/w with aviation will max benefits for the north.

Not checked if there are at the conservative conference but would imagine they will be at all the conferences in some shape or form.

Seems Flybe has the right idea, advocating that they would serve MAN more with a reduced APD. Hope something is resolved:

'Huge potential' - all sounds promising if something is sorted out.

Flybe boss in plea over APD - www.travelweekly.co.uk
He's right as far as he goes. Current APD levels are damaging the entire UK aviation industry and, consequently, the UK as a whole, not just operations at Ringway.

No good tinkering, APD needs to be swept away entirely (sensible but unlikely), or reduced to its pre-2007 levels (sensible but unlikely).

Fairdealfrank, you are correct. APD does not benefit anyone, it just reduces visitors. The UK Government seem to not understand the concept that visitors spend more money and generate more revenue for not just them, but for UK business's. They have finally realised that making it easier for Chinese visitors to enter UK means more growth, that took long enough and really was not rocket science to see the issue. Scrapping APD would be a good thing, but I am sure they will need to set up a commission and waste more money, so they don't need to make a decision.

I would like to hear some news from the airport regarding the terminals. There seems to be growth, but the terminals have no planning approved to cater for growth/changes required.

There have been at least two A346s in instead of the B77W.

A theory from someone who knows more about this than me is that it's due to demand for first class, the B77W has no first class at all, the A346 does, so most likely there's been a demand for first class over the weekend for what ever reason and therefore the equipment was changed on a few flights.

All just speculation though, but seems logical to me.

Ouch good point. It's roughly six as the first six are and the seventh probably is, I have seen no data on the very brand new A6-ETS aside from noting it has been on routes where F is usually offered. I'll take that on the chin but I hope that's clear.(-ish)
