British European has got the right idea it is quickly modernising itself for the future. And I do not agree that they do not have the right type of Aircraft because they have a formidable fleet.

More news to follow soon on a new Aircraft purchase as well for BE.

I wish other Airlines will follow suit and not call them self low cost - but as British European has done by cutting prices and still staying a bloody good Airline!

Well I have to agree with Exclusive Mandate, I don't think that BE have the right fleet plus for a small number of A/C I think that they have too many different types. (traing cost, maintenance, etc). .Anyway I do wish them all the best as they have some good guys working from them.. .Bokkie449.

Bear in mind, whilst debating the merits of the fleet(s), that they are in a state of flux right now.

We will probably (well, maybe) (well, it's fairly certain) (well, this week, anyway) end up with two fleets, one jet, one turboprop.

The 146 is perfect for what we use it for.

The Dash 8 is an effective turboprop.

We are not, and have no plans to be, a low-cost carrier as defined by Easyjet et al.

We operate in niche markets, and the future is exciting.

BE is an low cost airline, low pay to crews(Fo's),engineers(more of them in the book than around a/c), office staff, etc. contracts the cheapest ground handling agents and feeds pax ham rolls.... .All they have to do is cut back in profits, and keep the RJX money in the bank.

JEA,sorry, BE,have got a lot more going for them than most people give them credit for. I should know I was there for ten years. The only negative thing I can say is that the "management" never have appreciated what a fine workforce they have.. .There's now't wrong with the 146,perfect for a bit of low cost work. Whats all this about "ham sandwiches"? When I was there it was bread and water!!!!! Luxury lad.

BE certainly isn't low cost from GCI! Not unless you are very lucky and book miles in advance. I travel GCI to BHD fairly four or five times a year and the best fare is at least £168! one time it was nearly £300 when we had to travel at short notice to attend a funeral.

Ryanair and Easy Jet low cost ! what a joke.. .The sooner BMI Baby and BE get into the market to give true low cost the better.. .BTW BE's new logo 'Flybe.com' is excellent.

So where does British European future lye? It has been said in the last couple of months there are big changes are ahead, and if the scheme that is planned fails, it could be the end for the airline. I think it is great that they have realised that they have had to cut fares to be competitive, and also to see so much publicity in the media, that it can only do well rather than harm for the airline. But really can they survive in N.Ireland with the likes of Easy& Go both operating into London, with Easy now expecting to exapnd it LGW base. Surely that could have a real negative affect on BE if this happens. It is believed that BE want to go 7 times a day to LGW from BHD?? Is this necessary???

Regarding the fleet strategy, has there been any more update, or is that now put on hold, since the news of the RJX deal??

I hope that BE do stay in the market, as i have alot of great respect for them and hope to see them stay in the industry, as they have been the long serving member to the N.Ireland public and hopefully will continue to do so for many years to come.

Let's face it they can all offer low fares from time to time, but if I'm staying with friends in Surrey for example, then £35 rtn BFS to LTN isn't much good if it costs another 50 or 60 quid to get to Camberley and back.. .Last Sept, BFS-LTN was £125, tried to book 5 weeks in advance, went to BMI £105 BFS-LHR, who was low cost there then? . .Last week, I checked out BHD/BRS £175rtn, whereas BFS/BRS was £149rtn, OK it's cheaper, but not exactly low cost. Anyway, I booked with BE because of superior service and the fact that they operate from a half decent, centrally located hub. But it's swings and roundabouts, there's room for both types of airline, although BE would do well to hire some Marketing/PR peeps who know what they're doing.

and with a name like 'standard noise' I should think you work at this 'half decent, centrally located hub'. BFS is actually more centrally located than BHD. It also has fire engines which work..(sorry couldn't resist it)

flybe = FLY BEFORE EXTINCTION and we all know it. Iknow a couple of guys who just want out as soon as the others expand their fleets. Stay at your peril - you were warned and you say it here first.
