So that's all acceptable then. Don't think so.

Well it's lucky we have the luxury of separate airport then! Or even use public transport if its a deal breaker. As for security prefer they were over zealous even if it is not the customer friendly experience we would like, after all this is our security not a trip to your local restaurant. I have experienced jobsworths in most walks of life.

You need to get balance in your life and straighten your spine. The petty ways and apparent acceptance by some of the "necessity" of security pettiness in no way adds to your or my aviation security. Processing 5 people in 15 mins due to pettiness shows a lack of oversight. Luckily the person causing the hold up was relieved from that duty shortly afterwards.
You seem quite prepared to accept poor customer service according to your episode at Lgw.

Wish them success on the route, although LCY has never been that popular or successful from NI

Just looked at the price for BEE first week for LCY.

Assuming business pax on early Monday flight and back on early Friday evening flight the BEE price is £130. I compared this to EZY to LGW and price was £80. EI coming in at £115

Again assuming Canary wharf as destination time from LGW is 42/43 minutes and from LCY 13/14 minutes. With EZY arriving at 7.55 EI at 8.10 and BEE at 8.15 you could probably make 9am appointments.

Price and frequency may be the key!!

GAZMO

Just looked at those dates and BE has come up at £109. Also worth bearing in mind Gatwick express costs over £30 return, from Victoria to LCY using DLR the price to turn up and travel is £9 return, less with oyster maybe? From the city itself you couldn't really wish to be closer.

Hi Mart901

There is a cheaper option if you fly on the lunchtime flight on the Monday 27th Oct and back on last flight on Friday 31st Oct, comes in at just under £100

Monday 27 OCT £42 (first flight) and FRI £88( last flight)????

Agree Gatwick express is a rip off so I always take the train from LGW to London Bridge, much cheaper (30 mins) then jubilee line to Canary Wharf using Oyster card

Agree it is closer but sometimes it's best to look at the total price of ones journey, from airport parking, flight price and onward travel to destination

As I said previously I wish them well. Any new routes from NI should be commended

LCY is an expensive airport from which to operate - it's aim is to offer convenience and saving of time in return for higher prices. If you want cheap, Luton or Stansted is more likely the place for you. If you have an employee travelling for work who costs a lot of money per hour as salary and is travelling during working hours with limited time per day, LCY is your preferred airport.

Yes indeed good luck for new route, I'd pose some challenges to comments both negative and positive ;

Yes LCY has been tried before and Gazmo , you say it has never been popular ex NI. I'd say it's never really been a credible option to make it popular. It was operated by small Dornier the same season as FR and EI launched Belfast , the seats were crazy prices about £300 at times and didn't have particularly a good timetable. BE did it before via IOM and wasn't particularly a convenient option to get to London .

So we cannot really judge it until a few seasons of a solid timetable to judge. If GLA, EDI and DUB can support a London City route no reason why BHD can't .

On the flip side I say that LCY is absolutely not more convenient than LHR or LGW unless you need to be in the area of Canary Warf/ nearby areas. Travel time to Central London ie Victoria, Piccadilly more easily and quickly reached via LHR or LGW for that matter. Has anyone ever had to wait on a DLR and then stop everywhere to get to Central London ... ?

I've done LCY many times ex dub and to a few destinations further a field , I like it on balance ie time and price etc - I don't see it as preference no 1.

The prices by BE are lead in fares, as bookings are only starting , let's see the pricing on the flights when they get going. They will hit BA for there business pax, I'd suggest EI is not as dependent on business traveller as BA is...

Interesting times ahead

I think playing the pricing game of out one day and back a couple of days later is not the key here. Its daytrip business men who may now not need a layover in a london hotel for the night. Prce that kind of ticket right and you are on a winner.

Dear me no, get off the DLR at Canning Town then Jubilee Line into town, MUCH quicker. Ok off topic, but really worth knowing.
They will not dent BA flying with a DHC8-400 which has a poor reputation for reliability for a modern airliner. Choosing between a BA A320 from T5 or a flybe prop from LCY will just make the slightly longer journey to LHR seem worth it. BA have the corporate market sewn up at LCY, who exactly is planning on jumping ship to flybe on a smaller and slower aeroplane and have to pay the same price to do so.

They've just now abandoned the London- Belfast market long enough for BA and EZY to target their customer base. To walk back in at the start of winter and say "Coooee look we're back, it was all a desperate attempt to raise cash and avoid closure but we're better now. Now who wanta to fly on those Dash 8s we were retiring but we've changed our mind about? Can you all be loyal and come back to us?"

Anyone?

Interesting points guys on the BHD LCY route!

As stab has suggested it's aimed at the business pax, out from BHD in the morning and back that evening. I can certainly see the first flight with good LF, but as suggested on the EXE thread what will the load factor be on first flight back from LCY or the lunchtime flight?

Skipness,
My point is that the passengers/ target market will be those that want to get to heart of business district ie namely BA pax, of course people prefer airbus over prop , but let's not get that debate going on that one.

Your point about BE abandoning Belfast London only to return in oct with no continuity is well made, what I've said all along where is the strategic focus here?
