Ah the Nuttscorner loaf, feeling slightly stale now with a Best Before date of early 1970, leaves a slightly bitter aftertaste if you happen to try any other loaf afterwards.....

Straw poll time, what are your predictions for City in 2013? Will it continue to attract new business or will their good fortune to date be reversed?

Agree with BA, simply cannot see the logic of the two carriers head to head. EIR would be an interesting development.

I still wonder sometimes if City has been blessed with good management or good luck? Maybe a mixture of both? Maybe Aldergrove management is so poor City can't go wrong? Will Citys success to date lead to complacency?

I have watched businesses before that seem secure go on the slide to failure for different reasons. Aldergrove is a prime example. It would be a shame if City took their eye of the ball, I wish them every success for the future.

If we had PPRUNE 20 odd years ago would we question LHR head to head from one airport in Belfast? I know you say there are more London flights now but years ago you would have got the boat and train to London rather than pay ..£££'s

At a guess ORK back and a new airline along the lines of Manx2 doing it.

A STN and a direct Europe. Maybe Germany

So a merry christmas to all good men women and wise men !!!!

Manx2 are changing its name to city wing from 1st Jan as they want to concentrate on other markets rather than just IOM, so we could possibly see Cork return and maybe Shannon?

They'll be using the same aircraft as Manx2 currently use, so not a hope of people using it. The Cork crash is still fresh in people's minds. I think if Aer Lingus Regional do open a base in BHD, it's more likely they'll be the ones to restart a BHD-ORK service.

Would agree that EIR are more likely to take up ORK than anyone else. Would also be nice to see someone reinstate BRS and LPL both of which were unceremoniously ditched by BE within the last 12 months.

Re BA, wouldn't be surprised if BFS were talking to them to try and get a LHR link back - after all, BA are only at BHD because they took over BMI.

I see BA and BHD as good partners. City centre, business orientated airport, with a non low-cost, full frills carrier.... I'd be shocked if they were to part ways. And for those who think BA don't want to operate domestic routes, I keep comparing with NCL, and while BA operate NCL with their own metal, I'd say Belfast will be safe... I'd imagine stronger demand from Belfast, esp as we have no other full-service connecting airline (perhaps with the exception of UA), while NCL have AF, KL, SN and EK etc.

Apparently BD found BHD to be a bit of a cash-cow, and I'd image BA will also see the same benefit, esp if relations with EI draft, if that is true, that EI may be more aligning with Star!!

For those who think BA will leave BHD; why do you think that?

My personal opinion is that I can't see them moving. BHD is a "city centre airport" which makes much more business sense unless BA intend to schedule a 252 seat B763 or a later than 2115 arrival. Moving to BFS will just hand a lot of high yielding ex-bmi card holder business traffic; who like the convenience of BHD, to EI.

Since all of the ex-BD A320's have been reconfigured to 168C/Y and winter timetable started, BHD has had an almost exclusive A320 service from BA. I flew last week and both flights (Sunday out, Wednesday back) were packed to the rafters. My colleague couldn't even get overhead bin space for his bag! There is clearly a demand and changing for change sake seems senseless when it is clearly working.

Now that EI have jumped into bed with VS on mainland domestics, I think it is more likely that BA will go on the offensive against EI by moving BHD to T5. Connections to long haul become more attractive and domestic A321 operation to BHD can be used to increase capacity in an attempt to damage EI. I can foresee stormy waters for EI's codeshares with BA on the BHD run.

I once heard it said that BHD was one of the very few route that BMI made a killing on. Why run away from a winning formula?

Merry Christmas everyone!

I think all that just goes to show why EI moved. BA can easily scale back if it suits the demand, I can't see them leaving a route with so much transfer traffic. EI will be fine and intend to increase frequency.

Happy Christmas!

Have to say I travel to LHR with work and pleasure and I would always choose BA over EI all the way as baggage included the inflight service and the network links...

Would love to see EIR at BHD but would love to see true international routes from BFS.... I am flying to Singapore in Sept and currently I'm somewhere between BHD to LHR with BA then onward or Emirates from Dublin via Dubai...

If we had some sort of decent link in NI that would be great

Looking at the LHR route there was a 5k drop in pax numbers in November compared to last year, so who is losing BA or EI

Aer Lingus has 5400 less seats on Belfast-Heatrow market in November compared to November 2011. A320 to A319 which is 180 seats per day less. The drop also shows that BA havn't increased passenger numbers a lot as they added many flights possibly more that the Aer Lingus seat reduction but the route still dropped 5000.

I'd probably say that they're both loosing out to LGW now that EI are competing with BE. I can't imagine yields on LGW are as high as they were 12 months ago so price discretionary passengers are likely to have been tempted off LHR and are using LGW instead.

I can't see FR coming into an already highly competitive market with capacity restriction. Their margins are under enough pressure. LDY is the FR territory and I think will remain so.
