Parking
I agree BHD's parking is not the cheapest, but just looking for a week this month the airports own long stay is £39, that's not brilliant but hardfly outrageous, especially thinking of a car full. I agree with the point about drop off and go, and cheap enough for taxis from many places too.

Heading off on hols late Sept for 15 nights. Flying from BHD initially and using taxis however a quick price comparison for car parking at the 3 main airports (Cheapest airport car parks only ) reveals the following rates had i been driving.
BHD £58.45
BFS £49.49
DUB £35.68 (at current exchange rates)
So not a huge difference overall between Belfast's airports but again Dublin comes in cheapest..

Yes seems strange that they can't use Ikea given its purpose as a car park is established.
Regardless of the backroom lobbying, Mr Boal has been operating without valid planning permission and was well aware of this fact.
Unlike many private individuals who fall afoul of planning, his company won't have to pay a fine, pay for restorative works or back-pay rates. A nice earner.
Yes, Belfast City car parking rates are silly. The solution is to STOP PARKING THERE and instead use public transport or use the bicycle racks at the terminal. Short of that, the aiport has no incentive to reduce rates. People with more money than sense keep parking there, so they keep milking it. Simple.

The Ikea car park only has planning permission granted for ancillary car parking, as an adjunct to another facility. Not as a revenue-generating car park. It's like saying 'why can't I just use my house as a hotel, it has windows and beds!'

It's easy to say stop parking there but I imagine people travelling for business will do whatever is easiest for them, since they are not paying the fee out of their own pocket.
Hands up, I'm one of them. And for me that means parking at the airport, still my preferred option despite the penny pinching bean counters at BHD removing the courtesy bus (discovered the hard way at 6am one particularly wet and windy winter's morning as I parked near the opposite end of the car park..... ).
For personal/leisure travel I'd always get someone to drop me off. Or use BFS
Anyway I signed the petition, competition is badly needed.

That has to be the stupidest suggestion I have ever read in this thread.
Any time I've used the racks there have been a couple of other bicycles there. Never full, I concede but that's not surprising in a nation of 'car people'.
Not surprisingly, Schiphol has thousands of free bicycle slots. I guess all those Cloggies are 'stupid' too?
Can I leave my horse outside the terminal?

BHD Car Parking
Worth commenting on the price comparison posted by bongoo.
On example given BFS is c.15% cheaper but give land value differential [prime city site v agricultural land] nett profit at BFS is probably greater.
Regarding Second Dogs comments AFAIK Boal did not actually make a planning application.
They were forced to close because of lack of planning approval
Surely logical step is for Boal /IKEA to make a formal planning application for "Change of use" of upper car park level.
This would probably be given a sympathetic hearing by the authorities.

I hear senior people from Easyjet have met with city managers recently to discuss LGW options when Aer Lingus surrender the current slots. Could they really be considering going to city again, and if they were to relocate even some LGW operations, would FR not be straight into Aldergrove to replace them?

IAG slots.....
Thing here is EZY are backed into a corncer with little options. They want to keep FR out of Belfast and as things stand they are doing well on that front at BFS but at BHD they would allow anybody in which would still manage to damage EZY at BFS if FR came.
EZY are been forced to operare a 3 daily LGW ex BHD.

It would be a bold move but there could be an outside chance of Norwegian giving it a go, given they also have a growing long and short haul network from Gatwick that could offer connecting opportunities.

A blind man on a galloping horse could see that EasyJet need to apply for the Belfast Gatwick slots that will be surrendered by IAG. If they get them, which would keep Ryanair out ( as Ryanair don't have spare slots, and the route is attractive as slots would be made available), and by default see an exit by Aer Lingus. Whether Luton worked ex BHD is highly irrelevant as this is a whole different ball game. FR firmly has its eyes set on BFS... So keeping them out of Belfast is a top priority...
EasyJet would do v well on BHD. EI would exit and rich pickings would remain....
The IAG takeover has far reaching consequences... I deem this high risk for BHD...
