CelticRambler - while your ideas are great, the current security paranoia that in place in this country would put an end to any of that. Equally, the landside of the terminal is just too small to accomodate most of the checkin on a busy day let alone groups of teenagers hell bent on getting a coffee and using the wifi.
If the landside of Cardiff (or any other) terminal is too small, then the airside is probably too big. If "security" is a problem, re-locate it to the boarding gate. If the teenagers aren't spending their money, then provide them with a service that they do want to spend money on. It's not rocket science, it's business sense ... sadly lacking in so many parts of this industry.

Celtic,
When I go to an airport it is normally business related travel, I like a prompt check-in and then I like to retire to an eating and/or drinking establishment to sit and relax, in relative peace and quiet, whilst waiting for my flight.
I do NOT want to, effectively, find myself in an amusement arcade, there are plenty of those on Barry Island which are best disregarded by more mature folk and, when I occupied a CF62 postcode, were CWL airport to have resembled anything similar to an amusement arcade then I'd have probably been heading off to BHX to take my flight(s) from there.

Landside at Airports should be check-in and an arrivals hall. Maybe a shop or small coffee shop/restaurant for those smokers that can't smoke Airside.
Most Airports are turning into shopping malls, not social jaunts for teenagers.
You start bringing teenagers into an Airport and as teenagers do they will start acting up. Everything at Airports is taken quite seriously these days, so not a good mix.
I don't understand the suggestion that teenagers should come to an Airport. Teenagers don't have much money to spend, they won't pay £3+ for a coffee whilst quietly sat there on their phones Tweeting about their joyous time at Cardiff Airport.
People that spend the most money are probably the holiday makers who want a breakfast/lunch and a few drinks and mill around the Duty Free shops, or foreign tourists returning home. Business people may have a coffee or 2, but unlikely to spend much in Duty Free, expect free Wi-Fi and will probably just want to relax in the Exec lounge if they are entitled to it.
By suggesting to relocate security to the boarding gate, do you mean each gate? At CWL that means 15 security points. 15 scanners, however many staff it takes to process each machine, costs would spiral. Imagine MAN/LHR with gate security. Not going to happen.
Works have already started in CWL in the landside area.

Looks like we'll have to agree to differ on several points. I'm not recommending tinkering a little bit but radical change. Fortunately I have a tame airport designer on hand who finds imaginative solutions to my challenges (once he's finished shrugging his French shoulders and muttering "ça va être très compliqué ...")

It appears that British Airways will now be including the Vueling flights from Cardiff on their website according to a press release sent by the airport.
Press Release sent to: Wales Air Forum

So if I visit one IAG website (ba.com) I can book flights on another airline which happens to be 97% owned by IAG. Bit like being able to book ticket on Swiss but at the Lufthansa website.

I am offered a CDG-CWL-GLA flight on BE with a 35 mniute connection at CWL. I suppose it is the same Q400 that operates CDG-CWL and CWL-GLA.
How does that type of connection work at CWL? Is there an airside transfer facility, is it a landside transfer using a priority lane or is it just the regular way through arrival and security which could make 35 minutes rather risky.

You will be listed on the transit list so on arrival at CWL you will be met by Servisair staff and escorted through passport control and back through security to the aircraft. It will be the same aircraft
It has worked ok for a few years so you shouldn't have any difficulties

Vueling flights.........
I see ALC, BCN, AGP and PMI are all planned for Summer 2014......great to see the Vueling winter flights too and glad they are making a go at CWL.
Can also see ORY as a destination listed on their web page from CWL, I assume this is for the Six Nations Rugby as it's only available in February !!!
Phase 2 regarding Vuelings summer flights to be released soon, let's hope another new destination for then ex CWL !!!

I believe you missed second phase of Vueling announcement. The first phase was to announce Alicante, Palma & Malaga.
The second phase which was announced last week was the return of the Barcelona which didn't go on sale at the same time plus that you can now book all the flights on the British Airways website. - Press release
The Paris Orly which available to book on the Vueling website is indeed only for the RBS Six Nations matches 21st & 22nd Feb only.

With regards to the Vueling ORY flights.....the rugby is around 21 Feb, but according to Wikipedia the flights start 27 Feb ?? Could Vueling operate a regular ORY flight or am I clutching at straws here ?
