Do the WAG really need to keep another subsidised way of getting North to South by air
Historically I recall reading that it was all about a serving politician who lives in Holyhead and needs to commute back and forth to Cardiff.

Who the hell wants to go to Holyhead anyway? I recall one time I went there it's not exactly tourist country, blink and one could miss it!

There are other commercial airports in north Wales other than out out on a peninsula (island) the back end of nowhere, I'd suggest that Hawarden would be much better placed, reasonably convenient for the largest north Wales town of Wrexham, for Chester (I know Chester's in England!), a selection of train stations and main roads locally.

But that's if WAG want to continue throwing good money after bad!

That's got to be good news for CWL, Eastern are a British airline that are known for their style and service. They already serve NCL & ABZ from CWL and it would not be a shock if we will see a flight in between the VLY sectors.

The J41 (I assume it is) is also much more passenger friendly and spacious too.

Well done to Eastern !!

Well done to Eastern !!
Are they taken over the PSO or is this just an interim arrangement until WAG put it out to tender again?

But, it was a GBP1.2m per annum subsidy for a Do228, a L410, a J41 uses significantly more fuel than either of those, it's overflight charges, landing and parking fees, indeed just about everything, shall be more expensive so are they going to achieve all this on a GBP1.2m per annum subsidy?

And the Eastern thread on this forum doesn't make for good reading, it seems they are in financial poo these days firing staff right, left and centre then trying to rehire once they've realised their mistake!

Looks like Eastern are going to be using a Metro of North Flying (as did Citywing) under T3 flight numbers.

Not sure if this is going to be a permanent agreement until they sort out crewing issues for a J41 ??

Anyone know anything else on this ?

According to the Durham Tees Valley departures board a positioning flight is leaving at 6am to Cardiff - EZE011P

As far as I know there is only 1 J41 there at the moment, so wonder what happens to the passengers from Durham to Aberdeen in the morning?

Flights are in Amadeus as J41. No logic really why North Flying would be operating the route for T3 when T3 have their own metal available.

If if there isn't a J41 immediately available, the money WG gives for this route will soon make them find one available.

That's what I thought but can see a North Flying Metro has landed at CWL (or due in this evening) from AAL as per previous weeks when they operated for Citywing.

Eastern have quite a large fleet of J41's, maybe the Metro is to allow them to sort out crew etc as such short notice for Eastern to do. Especially as they've also taken over the old Citywing routes from the IOM to both NCL & BHD

As per previous entry a J41 is due in tomorrow morning from MME so maybe that's the plan, who knows.

Maybe Eastern are using their own aircraft tomorrow for press etc. And MME-ABZ will be flown by North Flying or another Eastern aircraft dropping in from somewhere else en route (NWI? HUY?). After which normal service will be resumed

After all that it was G-MAJG that positioned in from MME that operated the CWL-VLY flight.

Maybe the Metro was a contingency plan but actually quite nice seeing the J41.

Bet the passengers enjoyed the flight experience more too !!! Does T3 provide cabin crew on this as per other flights ? Refreshments served ?

They'd be another one the CAA were pulling the ticket of if they didn't provide cabin crew ... It's a legal requirement!

Is it me or is there currently nowhere to book the Welsh flights on Eastern Airways? IOM to BHD and NCL has shown up on their booking engine but not so the Welsh route.

It's a completely different pricing structure due to the fact it's a PSO route, plus before tickets go on sale to the general public the WG and T3 need to collaboratively set the ticket price and fare structure for the route, primarily to assist the AM's.

You've still got to commend the speed in which Eastern has taken over these flights, not just at CWL & VLY but also at IOM, BHD & NCL. All within less than 48 hours too.

Would have expected some press pics on CWL webpage with the J41 and the speed in which the flights were taken over as that is a good achievement

Word on the street is that a certain someone from T3 came down to CWL today to sort it all out. Read the Eastern thread for who the certain someone may be ...

The Eastern flights to VLY are now on sale with fares as low as 12.99 oneway and a return for 40.00.

Much cheaper if you can get these deals than Citywing
