Does anyone know for definate why EI is bringing an A330 forward. I can't see them putting ptvs on the older aircraft just before they dispose of them e.g. EI-DUB. Maybe it's just to have a backup aircraft. I don't see them getting an asian route within 12 months. Unless they will restart DXB

It is my understanding that the PTV's were only to be refitted to the existing A330-200's so therefore DUB and the other 300's wont receive them!

Just a thought but when EI finally retire the older 330s, could there not be a cause to keep them and convert them into freighters? It seems that EI have a strong cargo business. Any possibilities?

I think the older ones are returning to their lessors, so once that happens, it's somebody else's problem. I believe EI-CRK will be the first to go, in March 2009.

As for an all-cargo operation, does Ireland have enough air freight to justify this? Remember SIA pulled out earlier this year. The A330s have a good underfloor capacity (better still on the A350, when they come?)

The new A330s, incidentally, were due to be delivered in Feb, June and Sept next year, but I understand that the delivery of the first acft has been brought forward to November, after a slot swap with MEA.

Don't forget about Air Contractors also.

Once Aer Lingus replaced the 747's with the A330 the need for freighters across the atlantic was gone.
Aer Turas spent their last years leasing their aircraft out to Saudi etc in order to keep the aircraft flying. The DC8 was also bit of an overkill for racehorse flights to Luton.

The Cork Malaga winter schedule doesn't appear to have been loaded on website. Does anyone have info on this ? This is a very popular route.

Aerlingus

Neither has Barcelona or Rome, I'd say this is just a case of Aerlingus making their minds up about times slots etc. Should be sorted out shortly. Prague, Munich, Berlin, Amsterdam,ACE, TFS CDG and LHR all loaded for winter 2008/9.

Birmingham and Manchester still haven't been loaded either. Its still 7 months until the start on the Winter schedule so theres plenty of time. By the way Aer Lingus's Summer timetable started today.

Berlin is showing up as blank from November on. I also note that from next month the flights are evening flights which seems a bit odd.

They were loaded! Is this a reaction to Ryanair launching Shannon-Berlin? I have an awful feeling that this could be a repeat of the Madrid fiasco!

I hope not.

It seems strange to respond to a competitor who has evening flights to change your own ones from morning to evening as well.

Aer Lingus had timetabled evening flights between Cork and Berlin looooong before Ryanair ever announced SNN - SXF.
As for winter 2008/9, the timetables are being prepared. It's a bit early to be worrying about route A or route B based on what's already bookable.

My friend will be happy to hear that about Malaga, thanks. I suppose there won't be similar good news about ORK-ALC for the winter ?

It didn't operate this last winter, so I'd have my doubts about it operating next winter. I don't know is there enough demand in the winter for an Alicante service? I know it operated the winter before last, but frequency was halved after a month or two due to lack of demand. Perhaps one or two weekly would work during the winter.

I'm open to correction but I have it in my head that they had 3 ORK-ALC flights during Winter 06/07, which would have been crazy. One or two flights would have been fine. There are still plenty of people with property in the Alicante area. We went ORK-Malaga last November (and drove the 500km to Torrevieja) but never again. It was too much of a journey.

We went in November 06 and Jan 07 when the yields weren't great (about 66% and 35% IIRC). However, a week before the Jan flight, I checked the price as my sister in law might have travelled but the price was around €250+. With about 60 people on board on the day.

Rumblings of industrial unrest

There are renewed fears of industrial action at Aer Lingus after staff belonging to SIPTU voted to reject cost-cutting proposals negotiated with the airline a month ago.

EIDW....

Im sure if a bus company came along and planted a bus stop in your driveway or the government decided to take over your living room for office work you would complain and campaign for a return to normality....why should workers be any different and not protect their terms and conditions for which they were originally hired?
