ORK EMA
Looks as if Cork East Midlands route is to resume shortly. It was previously operated by WW and FR. Hopefully it'll be successful this time as there is less capacity on BHX ORK.

Will be good news also about Cork, EMA has lost a lot of Irish routes over the past couple of years, Cork, Londonderry and Shannon have gone and a reduction in flights to Dublin.
Who would be operating it?

quote ''It says on Ceefax that Jet 2 have signed a 10 year deal with EMA''
....my god - do people still use Ceefax!
Doubt nowadays that any company would 'lock' themselves into a 10 year deal - without many get-out clauses! -great news for the airport though!
regards bbb

A 10 year deal is a lot, I mean, Sterling had a 3 year contract, but only had about 18 months of it, if that, so who knows what will happen yet, 10 years suggests they want to be here and have plans to expand if they are here for this long, could get busy around here with Jet2
10 Year Contract
A 10 year contract sounds like Jet2 have made some sort of commitment to EMA for the period to exact a good deal from MAG - but with so many get out clauses as to make it akin to a collander.
Airports are desparate for a) new business and b) positive news stories at the moment and I think we ahve to separate spin from reality here.

Ema - Ork
Guessing it will be operated by FR? Would be good if WW but doubt they would start it knowing they will probably be pounced on straight away if they did?
TUES: ema 2005 - ork 2105 / ork 2135 - ema 2235
THUR: ema 1920 - ork 2020 / ork 2050 - ema 2150
And then maybe they'd do a Sunday service using an NCL aircraft in a NCL - ORK - EMA - ORK - NCL W-pattern.
SUN: ema 2020 - ork 2120 / ork 1850 - ema 1950

Cork
If it is JET2 it would be the based 757. I dont think there is a cat in hells chance of that.
As mentioned earlier with so many Irish route failures/withdrawals it dosnt bode well for cork again does it..
Any addition to the route network is however good, especially in the present climate.

Easyjet, the budget airline, is planning to cut flights by up to 20 per cent out of London's Luton airport and close its East Midlands base.
Easyjet said it would look relocate the flights from Luton to more "profitable bases" elsewhere.
The airline's base at East Midlands airport serves the area around Leicester, Derby and Nottingham. The company said that flights to and from East Midlands airport up to the end of the year are “wholly unaffected”.
Easyjet employs 120 staff and operates three aircraft at East Midlands, and carries around 700,000 passengers a year.

Easyjet EMA still in booking engine
Just wondering if the others are confused about this as well:
Easyjet's flight EMA-GVA is still bookable, all the way into next year, until 27Jun10, as if nothing had changed. In our office we frequently use EMA to get to Geneva, and as BHX-GVA is winter-only, this is really a nice thing for us, ok, they put it to 7am from end-Oct, that's not nice as public transport doesn't work then. Keeping this flight in the booking engine is irresponsible of Easyjet, in the wake of their announcement which was in all the national press. Say what you want about Ryanair, but after MOL's tirades, the flights chopped were gone from the booking engine within hours (recently HHN-MAN). As this is a rumour network, my odd feeling is that they are not sure they really want to close EMA (ok, but we heard a few days back from their workers that it's serious).

Could it be that this flight is going to be operated from GVA by Topswiss - Easy's Swiss affiliate. Having no aircraft based at an airport does not stop an airline from operating there after all.

Easyjet EMA still in booking engine
Good point, this could have been the case for the GVA flight (they do this at BHX, that is a Swiss-based EZS plane), but _all_ destinations from EMA are still bookable - PMI, BCN, FAO, AGP and even PRG, all until June 2010. Smells fishy to me. Mr Hamilton can't pull off an MOL-style blackmail, doesn't seem to be that kind of character. There must be people with kids already booking their 2010 Easter break, that would fool them badly.

BMIBABY TO INCREASE CAPACITY AT EMA WITHIN THE NEXT 48 HOURS TO FILL GAP LEFT BY EASYJET
From bmibaby website:-
Low cost airline bmibaby, which is part of the bmi group, has this morning confirmed it remains fully committed to East Midlands Airport and the wider midlands region.
The bmi group has operated from East Midlands since the airport opened in 1965 – and the bmi group has been an embedded part of the local community for the past 44 years, operating the first scheduled services from the region.
bmibaby will add extra capacity within the next 48 hours across its network to meet the market demand that will be increased by the departure of easyJet from East Midlands Airport.
Crawford Rix, managing director, bmibaby, said:
“We want to reassure the people of the region we will remain committed to East Midlands Airport. bmibaby has gone from strength to strength at the airport and we will continue to provide low fares to a great range of European destinations.
“As a result of easyjet’s decision to leave the airport, we will be increasing capacity over our current network over the next 48 hours, so that the east midlands market continues to have the capacity it needs.
“East Midlands Airport is home to bmibaby and we are currently exploring other opportunities to fill the gap left by easyJet at the airport.
“bmibaby is real champion of the consumer and this week uniquely has no credit card or debit card fees. We will continue to offer the highest quality low fares service to the market.”
