Easyjet, the budget airline, is planning to cut flights by up to 20 per cent out of London's Luton airport and close its East Midlands base.
Easyjet said it would look relocate the flights from Luton to more "profitable bases" elsewhere.
The airline's base at East Midlands airport serves the area around Leicester, Derby and Nottingham. The company said that flights to and from East Midlands airport up to the end of the year are “wholly unaffected”.
Easyjet employs 120 staff and operates three aircraft at East Midlands, and carries around 700,000 passengers a year.
