A business that has been run with a local authority mentality for at least 50years has just been bought by a company following arguably the purest and most aggressive form of capitalism possible. Why does anyone think there will be anything other than a radical shake-up in how the business is run and who's involved in running it.
Judgement on whether the new world is better than the old world is probably best reserved for a bit later than 4 months into the new arrangement surely?

Agreed. Its not a bad move to see what's out there in the big wide world but if you prune (sorry!) the tree too much then the plant does not flourish. It seems to me we have lost a lot of good knowledge

Local press in Jersey have printed that Jet2 will be operating Leeds-Jersey next summer. If loads are good it will turn into a year round service. No details as to times or day of service

Press release on the lba website also states that LBA-CDG will be going up to 2 x daily and that Jet2 plan to fly 3.5m passengers through the airport by 2010 - basically 3/4 million more passengers than currently use the airport in total.

Going to the dogs???
Leeds Bradford Airport has its own canine copper
By Bruce Smith
Leeds Bradford Airport now has its very own canine copper.
Dobby the 18-month-old sniffer dog has become the force's first detection dog to be issued with his own photographic pass ensuring he can go anywhere at the airport.
The cocker spaniel has already come up with the goods by recently sniffing out a large amount of cash as part of anti-money laundering operations at the airport.
Dobby was donated to the force by a Wakefield family and is trained to find illegal drugs, firearms and money.
Detection dogs can sniff out large amounts of money on a person and indicate this by sitting down in front of them.
Dobby's handler, Sgt Jeremy Burton said: "Dobby is an asset to the force and to get this badge is a reflection of the important role he plays not just at the airport but in operations across the county."
As well as detection dogs used in searches to locate illegal substances the force also has dogs for detaining suspects and crowd control such as football matches.
Among Dobby's duties are searching aircraft, in the cargo hold and the conveyer belt system. Each plane can involve sniffing over 300 passenger suitcases.
If Dobby senses a suspicious item police officers track the suitcase, identify the owner and intercept them in the terminal.
Insp Simon Hepworth of the airport policing team said: "Dobby is a valued member of the team. He is assisting the police and other border agencies in detecting and deterring criminals who pass through," he added.

Airbus A319-131, G-DBCI
Report name:
Airbus A319-131, G-DBCI
Registration:
G-DBCI
Type:
Airbus A319-131
Location:
Leeds Bradford Airport
Date of occurrence:
24 January 2007
Category:
Public transport - Fixed Wing
Summary:
On approach to Leeds Bradford Airport (LBA), the commander inadvertently selected the parking brake to ‘ON’ after the first officer had called for full flap. As a result of a previous landing by the commander at LBA, in difficult weather conditions, his attention was focussed upon the numerous ATC wind advisory messages transmitted during the approach. One of these messages coincided with the first officer request for full flap. When the first officer realised that the flaps had not been deployed to FULL, he called again for their selection, to which the commander responded correctly. The application of the parking brake was not detected prior to touch down. All four main landing gear tyres deflated on landing.

Article in tonights Yorkshire Evening Post
Philip Meeson CEO of Jet2 said his aim was to"significantly raise the profile of Jet2.com,Leeds Bradford International Airport and the Yorkshire region, particularly on the European stage".He also said it was the airlines ambition to fly transatlantic services from the airport in the future."We have aircraft that can fly over the Atlantic and we would like to.That is in our plans".Anybody any thoughts?.

Ermm....PM clearly doesn't read Pprune as numerous contributors have made it clear that LS can't fly across the Pond with the current fleet. What does he know? He's only the boss!

OR ...... are there any hard facts showing that the 757's cant fly across the atlantic? Surely they would be able to make New York?

757s across the Atlantic
Plenty of 757s cross the Atlantic now. As an example Continental fly from Newark to serveral European destinations with the 757.
The biggest short term obsticle is not the lack of suitable airframes, but the lack of ETOPS approval, which takes some time to obtain

I thought Jet2 had ETOPS approval in June?
I haven't heard anything since.
I hope Jet2 are a continuing success, But how 'fast' do they want to run?
Are they taking on too much?
I remember what happened to Capital back in the 90's - They expanded too fast!
Regards.

A320fan Sorry I was trying to use irony!
BYAlphaIndia The market is different now from how it was in the Nineties. The current expansion of LS is not massive, relative to its existing size. Some of the new routes appear commercially innovative, however they are being introduced at low frequency rather than commiting a lot of capacity at the outset. I accept that there are many other examples of 'boom and bust' e.g. Air Europe!
