New Tower
Would be right I think. The existing one is on top of the old RAF Gibraltar building, now used by the Defence Police but well out of date, and must be due for demolition..Putting it on the other side of the field, near to the new Raf building makes sense for many reasons.

Monarch are 'rumoured' to be starting a new route from LBA next summer.
Heard mixed reviews on how this one will operate but as a regular traveller the MAN-GIB route is often pretty much full and I've known a few friends who do fly from Leeds into Malaga. Plus whilst carrying smaller passengers numbers from Liverpool it covers a lot more cities with reachable distance such as York or Hull. Monarch I believe also advertise very well in GIB (quite a few posters there, but I think the one next to Eroski needs to be updated haha.
Will be interesting if true, and hopefully this will be the beginning of Expansion here Heard rumours of routes from Scandinavia too

Indeed MKY this, if it is true, will be very well received in GIB, although with fury in Madrid. No doubt there will be usual border shut down to coincide with the first flight, as that`s the juvenile way they think
Ordinarily the Gib routes could and should be marketed in Spain as an alternative to Jerez and the frantically busy Malaga, for the areas to both east and west of the Campamento, by the airlines, but they know the repercussions from the Spanish would`nt be worth it so they don`t.Sadly still one hand tied behind their back on this route but I wish them well.
They just need to sort out the new airport out there. Outstanding for arrivals, especially as you can now pick up a Spanish registered hire car outside the terminal building.Departures are a different story, they have replaced the previously wonderful security people who showed how it should be done with a load of contractors from a Spanish firm who are both incompetent and unfriendly. The new departure lounge and catering facility is overwhelmed if any more than 2 full jets are parked outside.
That said its still a better experience than most other places, but the old terminal was special

Well Paully have to totally disagree with you - what a load of tosh. The departure lounge is not overloaded with two departures plenty of seating - more than at Luton - plenty of space on the veranda overlooking the ramp. As for the so-called problems at the border - never had any trouble in nearly eight years living in Southern Spain and transiting many times (maybe I have just been lucky). I have some sympathy with the Guardia Civil etc as they are only doing there job - instructions from Madrid plus they are very polite not like some police forces I know! The main problem is tobacco (unbelievably cheap in Gib) and drugs coming via North Africa being smuggled into Spain and onwards to other parts of Europe especially the UK.
Do hope an LBA-Gib route starts but I would have thought a Scottish service would be more appealing considering the amount of Scots living down here and the same could be said for a Dublin service - Aer Lingus have a daily A330 flight from Dublin into Malaga.
My only gripe at Gib is Gibair (Blands) couldn´t run a bath never mind looking after five or six commercial flights a day!

Fraid I must disagree..Not tosh but personal experience. End of August to be precise and 3 flights, due to one being delayed, waiting to load. The queue for the refreshment bar was all the way round the seating area. There was no where to sit inside although I agree there was standing room outside. No good if you have kids or are elderly.
I`m afraid your views of Gib and the border mirror most ex pats who have a rather myopic view of Gibraltar and its people. Not going to get into the politics on here but have a look at this example of your `polite`Guardia..

I do agree wholeheartedly about Blands though.Useless

Listen to the beeping horns in my video here. That was the queues to get out of Gibraltar. Took my Dad 2 hours just from the airport:

Its the Guardia from Madrid on secondment to La Linea who are a problem. When they go to lunch the lines at the border free up, when the local Guardia are left to their own devices. Its all part of the systematic intimidation by Madrid - sooner or later somebody will get killed by the warship, guardia incursions into Gib waters, particularly related to RN vessels, including Nuke Submarines

would be surprised to see a Scottish-Gib service (that hayday is over I think compared to 10 years ago and noone was interested in the route then), and to be honest have my reservations about LBA-Gib.

Although I would use it, I do agree CC with its viability.I`m sure Jet2 have examined it closely over the years but never attempted it. EZY did have good loads out of Liverpool for a few years but then scrapped it. The main difficulty will be attracting sufficent inbound pax. But we live in hope

i do around 2 long haul trips a month, usually via LHR. In the past i have used GIB, and spent the weekend in the town prior to leaving. Unfortunately, the current situation makes it risky travelling through GIB so i drive the hour to XRY instead.
If the situation calms down, and hopefully the Spanish electorate have the sense to dump the current president and his idiotic party, i'm sure GIB can support addition services, pulling more customers from the Cadiz region, im not sure how the airport is advertised outside of GIB, ive never seen much advertising for GIB routes in the last 10 years, outside of the British community, which admittedly is probably the largest market.

Been a while since I have posted on here!
Bristol is a good start, however they need to start looking at EDI, GLA, DUB, CDG, AMS, unfortunately this is just not going to happen, got to be careful what I say but it is just all political here, what the govt says and does are two totally different things! it could be a fantastic airport with great routes but I fear it is just not going to happen.
I could expand and explain more but not somewhere quite so public!

they do indeed, it has been suggested and ignored, there is also a option of say a GLA/SOU/GIB route operated by BE for example, again another option that is not being discussed or approached.
