Infratil
Infratil is embroiled in an interesting airport controversy in Germany.
The European Commission last week opened formal proceedings against Lubeck airport - in which Infratil is the largest shareholder. The EU alleges the airport has received illegal state aid from the German Government.
Infratil Airports - which also owns Wellington, Glasgow Prestwick and Manston airport - denies the allegations and says the EU's persistence in pursuing the case sends a concerning message to private airport investors in Europe.
"One has to ask whether the commission is concerned with advancing competition and market reform or just the interests of influential participants in the German aviation market," it said.
The political stoush is no doubt a distraction for Lubeck management. Of the three European airports, it is in the best position to expand passenger services. It has 4.5 million people living less than an hour away but faces a challenge to overcome the prevailing German political attitude to private airports.
The dispute won't be financially material to Infratil, European airports represent just a tiny part of its investment portfolio - now dominated by a 50.5 per cent stake in Trustpower.
And Infratil shares have quietly risen nearly 20 per cent this year to make the stock one of the best performers in what is shaping up as pretty average year for the market. Infratil closed at $3.12.
Excluding the takeover premiums propping up Tourism Holdings and Auckland Airport, Infratil rates in the top three best performers of the year behind Air New Zealand and Michael Hill.

how long before Wizz routes are announced?
P.S. How about sending that Oasis jumbo up here so you can have a nice quiet kip in the garden
Just heard some news from a freind who said that Skywings have been pulled from Kent escapes and Seguro flights? Is this true and if so does anyone know what will be doing the rest of the flights/Hoildays?

Couldn't keep away today: had to have a look at the Cargolux. Five lorry loads of produce again, plus more jet engines. New this week was a number of Cargolux containers. Looks like a sound route.

Final stages of talks with a large well established world wide cargo airline looks like this one will be happening at least 3 times a week using heavies
Cargolux due to start second flight of the week on Thursdays real soon with in the next week or two
Talks continue with the big boys
Watch this space traffic levels will be increasing over the next 12 months from now

Thanks, TT, for the very welcome snippets.
Negativity on local radio and in the local press (I use the terms loosely) highlights another big success story: training flights and revenue are up sharply. Airliners and business jets are now being joined by military transports (including a Dutch C130 this week) and AWACS aircraft.

As someone who works on local radio I think we're quite supportive of Manston and I personally would like it to succeed.
Incidentally I contacted the Wizz press office about a week ago and asked them the direct question . . . . and I'm still awaiting the answer!

more spending
I spoke with a business friend locally over the weekend. He has just been asked to quote for the widening of some taxiway markings and lighting. Quoted £xx,xxx and was told on the spot to go ahead but be quick!

Spending....
as you mentioned spending........
You'll notice the fencers are back. They are installing new security fencing around the main car park and the levelled ground that is the next part of the car park to be tarmacced. They'll need all those spaces soon when the news is out

I'm through there twice a day and the handful of blokes they've got working there do seem to be flat out most of the time, there's been a definite increase in activity recently including a lot of outside contractors.
How much work is likely to come in when the new Summit engine overhaul place opens next year?
