And what exactly are the good folks over at tiny town doing whilst Ryanair continues to erode our market share? Are there any signs of potential expansion or trying to capture some of the bigger European city markets or even some more Med sun routes? The answer would appear to be no. Everyone seems to be waiting for the announcement that baby will pull off more routes that Ryanair remotely compete on like we did with the French routes, Italian routes, Dublin and BCN & MJV. It's a real shame because we have a far superior product, a great team and a surprisingly loyal customer base.

To be honist I dont think bmibaby want to fight Ryanair, they saw a chance at Birmingham and have decided to take it, I think this route would be good for baby as at the moment no other operator goes to MAD from BHX so it will be a good investment...
Its not always beating other airlines, its about getting passengers and passenger numbers and profits, not whether they do more flights to such and such place

I think some people forget on here how old bmibaby actually is....
We are still a young airline, with a good product!
Airlines such as FR and EZY can start routes willy nilly due to the number of a/c they have - baby saw an opportunity in BHX and took it and the loads would suggest that was a wise move...
Hopefully baby will get more a/c but just because new routes are not happening at the minute does not mean the business is doing bad or poor - if you have found a niche market stick to it and expand WHEN THE TIME IS RIGHT!! There are only so many routes that can be flown by low cost airlines, no point in picking a market that is over satturated...
baby is doing well, that is clear to the eye and evident by the high loads...

Midland rail from nov07 take on the new east midlands parkway station and a train service to London two per hour is their a start date for the airport station to open!
And will ryanair call it LONDON NORTH.

nah, these Ryanairs manage to make up so much time on some of their sectors... I'm convinced that their B738's fly at Mach 1 sometimes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The average age of the bmibaby fleet is 12.8 yrs, which to be honist isnt bad compared to Jet2 which is 19.6yrs,
The 2 aircraft that are coming from AirOne should be delivered within December - February and the other aircraft from Varig in March.
I would imagen the B735 would WFU shortly after that, they need to be getting rid of G-BVKB, G-BVZE and G-BVZH really as they are in the most damage.

The oldest aircraft in the fleet was only manufactured in 1991, it might not be as new as some of the aircraft flown by the competition, but they're not too bad either. There's no point for bmibaby competing with airlines like Ryanair or easyJet, as baby will always come out with the bloody nose. The airline doesn't have the competitive spirit nor the cost base to compete with these carriers. Instead, as mentioned, the airline would be better suited to it's niche of building up their bases with routes to key sun spots and European cities. There's still some opportunities from EMA, but BHX is more attractive right now as baby's main competitor is flybe who are still enduring the growing pains of their integration with BA Connect and the BHX management team are keen to see baby expand.

Also I'm not sure if the "remember we're only 5" argument stands up anymore. You only have to look at the scale of airlines like germanwings who are similarly only 5 years old, or remember how big easyJet were by the beginning of 2001 to see what an airline can do in that space of time. And remember that bmibaby essentially took off from where British Midland left off, plenty of ground work done but not enough proactive steps taken to defend the home turf.

Well findingema as i told you the other day you should come work with me. I can see Ryanair taking more baby routes like belfast, yeh it may only be one route, but its just more eatting away at the baby EMA route network route network and profits from EMA. On the note of sun routes, EMA-TFS EMA-MJV, EMA-GRX(also ski in the winter), how long untill SVQ, AGP, PMI and ALC.....
And one last thing, Ryanair has done so well at EMA thanks to Ryanair being willing to take the risk of new routes and the staff at EMA being to good.....

Baby fleet renewal
Don't know where people get info from but only 3x -500s to go next year.No more a/c coming from Varig (used up all the credit with Rentokil) and only one Italian plane coming.Another a/c is lined up but 737 classics are like rocking horse c#*p at the mo' so things may get interesting in '08.

And the B733 are a good sized aircraft for baby to use, not as expensive as some other aircraft around today and they do the job, they are on a tight budget and with the money they have it has brought them a long way, 15 B733 in the fleet and 6 B735.
If I say myself a very good job to baby and we hope to see lots more routes in the future...
A few routes that to me bmibaby should consider from east midlands that is in the near future if wanting to compete with the other airlines.

East Midlands - Marseille would be a big mistake if baby tried to do this route, as Marseille is a Ryanair base and will only be a matter of time untill its added to the Ryanair network. Ryanair has a very good route network from EMA to France for the second home owners. Only really two more places for Ryanair to move into from EMA to France and that is Paris and MRS.

All this nonsense about FR being the 'hard man of the school playground', and one should stay away from him or your in trouble. FR are a good airline I have flown with twice, and wouldn't have one complaint about their service. However they do blow off a lot of hot air. All their threats at Dublin, and EI are now fighting back. All their moaning at STN-Park your planes, more seats for EZY. It will get to the point that airports will avoid FR, and see them as a problem to avoid. EZY will nip across to BHX as will WW and EMA will be at the mercy of FR. Who will be the loser EMA. Loads of passengers no improvement in facilities as they cannot afford to. No new airlines because of the 'fear factor' so many of you guys rant about. Look at PWK an original FR airport. Very few operators and no money in the pot to improve facilities. EMA be warned

Gate 22, how accurate your post is. The more Ryanair take over, the more others will retreat to airports where the can make money without the cut throat competition. Believe it or not some people don;t mind paying a little extra for a reserved seat and less of the "scrum" loading. Ditto extra leg room and connections via other hubs not simply point to point. Most airports aim for a good mix of loco and full service and losing this mix with a dominant player taking over would be bad news. Hope EMA can maintain their current mix and selection of airlines and routes, they have put up a damn good expansion of late. Hopefully it will continue that way.

*New Routes
*Cheap Fares
*Generally on Time Service
Some airlines/tour ops have done this, well maybe not the cheap and on time bit, but I dont understand why people moan about Ryanair at EMA, its where most the growth is coming from, at a time when domestic pax numbers are down Ryanair is adding more, like Derry, Inverness, Belfast.
Im sure EMA has more than a big enough catchment area for the likes of easyJet, Baby, Ryanair, Sterlin, BMI and the tour ops.
p.s. well done baby your back to normal not too many delays, and only short ones at that
