Adria's timetable, now loaded to mid-June shows LTN-LJU being operated by all
A319 aircraft, rather than the current mix of A319/CRJs. A slight capacity
increase. Times remain similar.
Got to say I'm amazed with the support El Al is getting on the LTN-TLV route, with capacity increases on a regular basis.
Remember there is another 2 x B744 full of passengers getting on/off at LHR T2B every day.

Not really surprising: large VFR traffic from Hendon and the surrounding area, Hendon is a few stops from Luton on the Thameslink or a short motorway drive, much more convenient than traipsing accross Middlesex to Heathrow!

There is so much choice though, not just El Al - there's also easyJet and British Airways providing tough competition. Already up to 6 flights per day, 38 flights a week each way between London and Tel Aviv.
I also don't suppose there will be much transfer traffic out of LTN.

The El Al schedule seems highly erratic though. This year, only the Friday flight seems to be constant year-round. However, since the start of the Olympics it's been daily ex-Sat, usually with a 762, alhough I saw on Tues. this week they sent a 763ER. Little sign of the 772's they sometimes used last summer.
EZJ must be giving some stiff competition LTN-TLV with a daily flight, albeit with the smaller A320's compared to LY's 767's.

Interestingly though the caa stats show a 30% decrease on the Tel Aviv route, down from 24500 in July2011 to just under 19000 for July 2012.
Is this just down to El Al as Easy schedule is the same as last year I think?
Note that the Planning application for the replacement Signature hangar next to the cargo has been approved by LBC this week!

Distress
At about 18.58 I heard an almighty noise of what I first considered to be a military Hercules (sounds of props not jets) taking off from the airport. Upon investigating it was in fact an Easyjet A319 having got into difficulty during climb out! Subsequently the aircraft returned to Luton for an emergency landing at about 19.20 with fire engines on stand by.
