I agree with Stocky3,think there would be a huge market for flights to India and Pakistan from LBA.However would the terminal be able to cope now?.One thing I remember from the short lived Swefly flights was that all the pax seemed to bring their entire extended family with them to the airport!.
I am also surprised that Jet2 have not introduced more destinations in Poland, given the fact Leeds has a sizeable Polish community. The likes of Ryanair now fly to places in Poland from other airports, that I can't even pronounce!.

If their is an untapped market im sure an airline like Jet2 could exploit it, even if it is seasonal. Routes which i think would be popular would be the emerging new destinations such as Cancun and Dominican republic, i guess they would still come under the "Bucket and spades" mantra commonly used by Jet2. If they are to get 767s then that could be easily done

In regards to Jet2 flying to Pakistan, why not? the demand is here, India is a different matter, firstly becouse their is not much of an Indian community in Yorkshire and secondanly Jet2 wont be able to compete from competition when Kingfisher or Jet Airways come to MAN in the future. I could see one off charters to India but not with Jet2, from LBIA for sure!!

737NGs, now that would be a departure from the norm. They'd be much more expensive so I doubt that'll happen for a while yet. Another 757 I can believe but it seems good ones are hard to find. Guess we'll just have to wait and see.

jet2

Is it definate the jet2 will get some 767's, does anybody know if lsad will get a full paint job. They seem to be doing extremely well for on time departures at Manchester even though they hardly ever get on a stand with an airbridge.

I think their are some EasyJet 737NGs up for grab, but i dont think Jet2 would get them, i feel sorry for the maintenance team....Boeing 767s, 757s, 737-300, 737-NGs...logistics timebomb

Maybe they`ve been reading some of the travel forums where they are getting a reputation for being overpriced with tatty aircraft and dubious reliability/timekeeping.....very sad ,hope the rumour of the NG`s are true.Much needed

Tatty aircraft?! listen they are not the best ok... but lets not forget... when easyjet where the age of Jet2 they had old aircraft as well, and ryanair had older with the -200's!
As for over priced? every time i have priced flights jet2 have come up well, usually best or 2nd best for price.

Airlines have to start somewhere even if it means starting from the bottom you have to make the best out of what you've got. I hope that Jet2 do get some 767's it would be nice to see them in their colour scheme. Good luck to you Jet2.

Jet2 press release 20 Sept 2006

We are delighted today to announce new low cost services from Manchester to Barcelona, Berlin, Paris, Toulouse, Venice and Warsaw

11 months later…

Warsaw never started
Warsaw replaced with Prague – Prague now axed
Barcelona axed
Toulouse and Venice not operating this winter – who knows about next summer
This leaves Berlin on a lower frequency and Paris as the only survivors this winter from the big splash 11 months ago.

Radical thought to the folks at LFF towers but maybe focus on doing better with the current fleet and not thinking about bigger aircraft is the way forward here. MAN has already lost EDI and LGW which couldn’t compete and isn’t it clear that going head to head on saturated routes in MAN/LPL territory is not the way forward. Have any routes actually been cut from LBA in the 5 years since the business launched – maybe a bit of a clue what happens when you have the show to yourself in a big market? Jet2 brand will not be better recognised and have more pull anywhere more than it is in Yorkshire, so why isn’t it being milked. Having lived up here for a while now I am constantly amazed at how p1ss poor the package holiday businesses treat customers from Yorkshire. This should be screaming out as a massive market opportunity for the brand and jet2holidays business. Instead we’ve had a year of wasted money and effort in trying to outdo CSA and BMI on MAN-PRG or ZB and EZY to BCN and at LBA have managed to erode the brand in the area it has served us best thanks to bad scheduling and reliability. Not clever.

Final thought. Grand total of 26 flights per year to Cyprus from LBA. 1 per week in summer only. 200 from Manchester in a typical month. Repeat for Turkey, Greece, Malta, Egypt, Tunisia and anywhere else outside of Spain. Bit of an opportunity perhaps?

I agree to some extent. Warsaw would have been far more logical than trying to get in on the over saturated Prague route. As for Barcelona, whilst managing a daytime 757 from Leeds, a very poorly timed 737 out of MAN was always going to be a flop. BCN is a mix of leisure & business pax, an arrival at MAN at 2am is pretty hopeless.
What they should be looking at from MAN is Madrid, Warsaw, Krakow, Tallin, Vienna, Munich & Bilbao, all with potential & underserved from this area.

Do the MAN routes make money? If so, something is being done right. Too many airlines lose too much money by being inflexible and hoping that things will get better. If this chopping and changing actually puts the company in a better position, be thankful. If you could run the airline better, apply for a job and prove it.

Any reason why the fd crew on the 737-400 out of Manchester were Spanish when the lease started, now they seem to be all American?

There were a few language barriers sometimes between UK crew and Spanish flight deck, so the a/c was changed to a US or EI reg one as planned, so now the crew are american and it cuts out any language problems

crewboi83,

Ah that explains it then, I thought it could be something like that. Were the fd crew contracted in or do they already work for Futura?

Cheers

Well technically they work for FUA but they maybe contracted to FUA.
The american guys already worked for them, not brought in just for Jet2 tho.

Maybe their working out where they can go on a 767 from NCL ........
