Haven't GSM broken almost every rule of the LCC business model at MME though? I thought the whole point was to keep the a/c airborne as much as is physically possible, yet our based machine sits on the ground two days a week!

I know. That is difficult to fathom or defend.
As I said earlier, summer has a resonable schedule and hopefully we won't be seeing this obvious waste again.

A reasonable schedule would be leaving prior to 8AM (at the very latest) and returning not before 21:00, does the summer schedule do this?

Have a look at their website but from my last look I think apart from one or two days then the answer to your question would be yes.

Flying from MME to LHR last Tuesday I was shocked to see the GSM sat about doing nothing-surely we could support another route or additional flights to existing destinations.

As for bmi what on earth is happening with regards their punctuality?their service is still very good in my opinion (apart from paying for the food!) but their tardiness alone will kill the route. I was delayed both ways, coming back by 2 hrs. I see tonight both their evening arrivals have heavy delays.

On the flight down managed to overhear some crew talking about morale at MME and that 'it wasn't a good time to be at the airport' with the uncertainty of the route and how Aviance are pulling out for servisair to take over fully.

Does anyone know how wizz are selling seats?just wondering if loads have been affected by DSA starting the same service (shouldn't peel airports try not to replicate developing routes such as these where appeal might not be as high as ALC, AGP etc...?

Tonights problems were out of their hands - lots of delays and cancellations at LRH today.

Sorry airport closed!

I hear that on Tuesday night the Tomson flight and the Globespan flight were diverted to NCL because everyone at MME had gone home.I don't know what message that sends out if it is true.
Please someone tell me that it is just a salacious rumour being put about by jealous rivals.
Looking at the Omni Air flights so far this month it would appear that they will trounce every other airline on passenger numbers.

I've heard similar, the weather wasn't expected to improve and people were sent home. Then sods law, it improved and there was nobody around! This is not first hand info, so dont take as gospel.

The last KLM planned into NCL, when he was 40nm SE of MME we were told the MME RVR had gone up to 1000m we told the KLM but he said that all ground staff had gone home and all logistics were in place for NCL so continued to land with us(NCL).
When you only have a CAT1 ILS and its foggy and not planned to improve you've got to plan to go some where you can guarantee to get in (ie NCL CAT111 autoland avail), beleive it or not its quicker for the pax's than holding then diverting and then finding coaches back to MME!
I believe on the day we got at least 2 KLM's, one BMI, the GSM TFS both out and in, TOM ALC and some EZE's.

MME4EVA

Fog London bound was the issue on and off for most of the last two weeks there has been fog causing delays. I think this is the issue for the bad punctuality rather than their inability to offload and reload two dozen passengers on an embraer.

If you flew in the morning it was at its worse, i flew up and back last wk with no issues

I was the one who made the call to Newcastle at around 2145 to inform of the improved RVR (it had actually been steadily improving for around 45 minutes or so prior to that - the EZE JS41 landed without any issues at around 2105!!). It is quite frustrating when I was sat for best part of the afternoon watching the several inbounds we did have go "up the road", but hey - that's the downside of working in a valley, right?!

I'm adding a CAT 3 ILS / upgraded lights to my wishlist but don't think I'll get it!!

I heard the KLM call up on the MME tower frequency at about 2155 to inform they had to continue to NCL due to company instructions - because Servisair/Immigration/etc had all been sent home and that they would have rather landed at MME! I did see from DTVMovements site though that it positioned in the following morning to do the outbound run which is better than some other airlines! (Didn't EZE operate their NCL-BHX and NCL-CWL flights from MME last week when the previous evening's aircraft diverted into MME due fog at NCL?)

I think whoever made the decision to close has had a Michael FISH moment.
I would like to have been at the Management meeting the next day.

Bartrams don't you mean re-starting flights to Orlando. We did use to have them along with a flight to the Dominican Republic.
I presume its just a joke I haven't caught on to.

Heard last week the South side road has been delayed another 3 months.

Can you be more specific about the delay to the south side road? I'm starting to hear lots of things regarding the airport expansion and delays, what's the cause of the delays and is it Peel's fault or not?

Fog issues at MME

Just thought this would interest people.
Before the Tees barrage was built MME used to have few problems with fog but since the Tees barrage was built the fog problems have been alot worse. It has alot to do with the tides. The thing is that MME managment have been told about this on several occasions and nothing has been done about it. I know that MME probably doesn't need CAT III but maybe CAT II should be considered. I'm not saying the other day was due to the Tees barrage but it is certainly a factor. This whole story is typical of the goings on at MME especially with the weather situation, I remember a couple years ago problems with snow and ice on the airfield. Managment being bright sparks had not provided enough snow clearers and would not authorise the use of prilled urea without prior clearence from senior management, liquid urea was used but at such a low concentration that it froze. All economy measures that ended up costing money!!!!

bmi

UKlad007,

It may have been gof last night but when I flew down (12th Feb) it was late in and was held in the stack for over 30 mins which never seems to happen when i route through AMS!coming back up on the 15th BD332 there was appearently an inbound ABZ A319 going 'tech' that caused the 2 hr delay...funny how the LBA/MAN/EDI went but us MMEers were left at gate 8!!!

what is up with bmi engineering?

12th Feb 2008-A319 going 'tech' at LHR due for MME
Oct 2007-Embraer 145 bound for LHR from LBA I was on went 'tech'
Feb 2006-AGP to MME delayed then cancelled for my parents finally to be flown the next day to EMA then bussed up to MME
Oct 2004-bmibaby B737 MME bound for AGP several hour delay my family were due to be on had to have a new bulb driven up from EMA!

Obviously part and parcel of aviation but it makes me think twice about my diamond club membership!!

Sorry DTVAirport I was just told delayed and from past experience I presume delayed because, either they have no money ie as with the previous Moorfield Semly South side development of the 1990s, or they haven't got anyone to take enough or any of the planed development.
