Quite right.

And...............there are only a certain number of ways you can answer the same question, a limit in fact, so please be sure to THINK before you press the submit button.

And.................because Scroggs can answer a VS question it should not be taken that this thread is then a question and answer forum for him to be used as a 'chat up' line.

I agree this shouldn’t be a Q&A for Scroggs, but where else are we meant to ask questions/make comments/provide info about VS? I’m eager to learn.

It’s not appropriate to post on the VS master thread in T&Cs or the wannabe threads, nor do non-employees have access to the locked VS employee forum.

I, along with all the other guys on here I’m sure, are grateful to Scroggs and anybody else who is able to respond to our questions/queries. Nobody here demands a response. We ask, if we get an answer then great. If there’s no reply (from anybody, not just Scroggs) then so be it.

If you look back over this thread, very few questions are directed directly towards Scroggs.

Cheers.

Absolutley Hawk. It's just I'm just looking back over the 4 pages to see where it was taken off track, and I can't see anywhere. The topic was/is Virgin, and all posts thus far have been on just that topic.

Back to the topic at hand.....

Edit: In hind-sight (and reading the sticky), I guess some of my questions would be better off in the spotters forum. On that note, I'll refrain from posting here again until if/when I have some "professional input".

Seen as VBUG is the 642X variant, will this aircraft be deployed on particular routes or will it operate any/all of the 346 routes?
VBUG will operate to the same weights as all the other Virgin A346 aircraft.

Could someone please tell me how many daily flights Virgin has from LHR....
Go and look on the Virgin Atlantic website.

What does Boeing's PR dept have to do with this? It is speculation (although probably very well grounded - ATW isn't the only place I've heard that rumour) that VS is the likely customer for these aircraft. Boeing is usually very coy about revealing customers before these customers are ready to go public themselves.

The "4 engines 4 long haul" is an Airbus thing; I don't think it appears on the 747s.

Someone has ordered these (and another splash of 787 orders is coming soon, pushing it over the 500 mark).

Yeah but the "4 Engines... " thing was a prod at (an)other carrier(s) going with twins for L/H stuff (ETOPS). My point being that by buying 787s, they will be using 2 engines 4 long haul.

And so what? VS played the game with Airbus at the time and now their strategies have changed in an evolutionary industry.

If they see the 787 as the way of the future for their business then so be it. if they score a few green points along with it then thats a bonus we can all live with cant we.

May be some of the undisclosed order is from TUI.
The joint statement today on their merger quoted that a total of 23 B787 were on order, as of last week FCA only had 12 on order.

Yes, mate. I'm trying to be a wee bit light-hearted. Clearly not meeting with much success.

London slots has to be the answer; isn't BMI the third largest carrier out of Heathrow in terms of slots?
They must be the major asset value of the company.

isn't BMI the third largest carrier out of Heathrow in terms of slots
bmi is the second largest slot holder at LHR, by a long way, holding more than 1 in 10 slots at the airport. Virgin is 6th largest:

Out of 468,120 (in 2005):

1st BA 192,378
2nd BD 54,500
3rd LH 20,978
4th EI 14,841
5th SK 14,049
6th VS 12,571

So VS & BD combined would hold nearly 15% of all heathrow slots, over 180 a day.

Virgin Atlantic to get 787's??

Article from ATW

Virgin Atlantic, Virgin Blue likely contributors to Boeing's big week

Monday March 19, 2007
Boeing added 46 orders to its backlog last week including 27 aircraft for unidentified customers: Six 747-8s (understood to be freighters), six 777s (understood to be -300ERs for Virgin Blue) and 15 787s.
There is informed opinion from London sources that the 787 order came from Virgin Atlantic Airways, which has been moving rapidly toward a green platform. The carrier recently deferred its remaining six A340-600s (ATWOnline, Feb. 26) and those slots have been taken by Lufthansa. Virgin also deferred its order for six A380s with first delivery slated for 2013.
Two analysts in London told ATWOnline they would be surprised if the airline took either deferred commitment. "Branson's going all green and for twin engines," one claimed.
Boeing now has sold, net of cancellations, 112 aircraft this year comprising nine 737s, two 747s, 36 767s, 23 777s and 42 787s. Orders for the 787 have passed the 500 mark with 513 sold--490 under contract and 23 pending signature.

Linked to in post 67 above. And I'd look to BA rather than VS as the source of that 787 order...
