mufc4evr, you dont work in the aviation field or have any idea. To start a new route at times like these would be utter suicide, but if anyone can, Virgin Atlantic can and will make it a success.

If Aer Lingus can't make it pay with an A330 what chance Virgin with a 744 or an A340-300?

Virgin Atlantic 'was in danger of disappearing'

Just came across this interesting bit of information, not sure if it was discussed already.

Virgin Atlantic was in danger of disappearing - Scotsman.com News

VIRGIN Atlantic might have "disappeared" if Halifax Bank of Scotland had gone under, Sir Richard Branson has revealed.

The billionaire founder of the airline said HBoS refused to let his company withdraw £1 billion pounds of its money when it looked like it was set to go bankrupt last month.

"Virgin Atlantic may have disappeared if HBoS had gone. It could have been that serious," Sir Richard said.

In an interview with Fox News, he said fears that HBoS was about to go bankrupt led Virgin to try and withdraw £1bn of deposits, but it was told it was unable to under the terms of its deal with the bank.

Sir Richard made the comments as he explained why he thought governments should guarantee "all of their depositors' money in banks".

No.

Next deliveries will be the 787-9s beginning 2012 (in theory) running through 2015 with A380s coming in 2013/2014.

Virgin Atlantic in aircraft order discussions.

Found this on the internet today:

Virgin Atlantic is currently in discussions with Airbus, Boeing and aircraft leasing companies about adding new aircraft to its fleet from 2011. We are exploring additional opportunities in light of delays to deliveries of the Boeing 787 Dreamliner. Any order could involve the purchasing or leasing of up to 12 aircraft, which would complement our existing Boeing 747 and Airbus A340 fleet.

Interesting, in such uncertain times...

Discuss.

Virgin have publicly stated the aircraft would be based at LHR, LGW & MAN.

For the MAN side of things, what could we realisticly see:

1) would they actually be 'based' or be shared with LGW as they are now
2) how many could/would be based here?
3) what routes could they be deployed on them (ei replace the B744 on the routes we have now or introduce new routes

Many Thanks

Quote "Moderators, Why do you allow such unsubstantiated drivel to be posted?"

Er, because this is a rumour network and it's in the very nature of rumours that they are unsubstantiated?

Well there is no smoke without fire. Branson himself recently said his airline could have gone out of business due to the banking crisis. Of course much back peddling by the VA PR dept after that gaff.

Whilst Lufthansa are laying up their A340-600's VA are stuck with theirs.

"Four Engines For Longhaul". What happened to that legend on the side of VIRGIN jets?

Now replaced with " NO WAY BA/AA/IB/QF" presumably.

And the VIRGIN brand is not so "wonderful". Anyone care to list the failures: Vodka, Cola, Cars, V cosmetics, Wine online, Clothing. The only success has been 'brand dilution'.

I too am wondering if we will ever see the four engines logo again. Anyone speculate what routes the 787s will be operating?

Yes TCAS. Branson should be consistent and paint "Four Engines for Longhaul" on his 787's.

Surely two engined jets are less safe? Why did Branson change his mind?

Rumours of redundancies

A work colleague who's wife works for Virgin in Crawley, tells me there are strong rumours of cutbacks/redundancies in admin etc (not frontline, Flight Crew or Cabin Crew).
Before anyone asks, I don't work for Virgin or indeed any Airline or Airline related business.

Stansdead - This is a RUMOUR (look it up) network so the occasional bit of unsubstantiated drivel shouldn't attract the attention of the moderators delete button. Maybe your insults and profanity should though. Yes you have LOTS of posts to your "credit" - try going for quality over quantity. Yes Virgins profits are up, from a derisory base. Yes they did hedge fuel prices at twice the spot rate (Google it) - thats not quite so smart. Now here is the BIG news; ALL airlines are facing huge challenges due to the global financial crisis - maybe you have heard about it. Virgin have and Branson and Ridgway have made comments highlighting the precarious situation of their airline. It would make sense for Virgin to go seasonal on this route(pull it for 6 months a year) or pull it all together. Now finally a challenge to you and the "put up or shut up brigade" - lets have a bet on the accuracy of this info. If an announcement is not made within 10 days I will pay 1000 pounds to a charity of your choice of course when the announcement is made you cough up. And sorry I won't divulge my source - the insider - cos they might just limit their career prospects (duh). Anyway, post back if you fancy doing your bit to help a worthy cause - after all it is Xmas the season for giving.
