spanishflea...mate,appreciate your help in this...Ive seen that shorts many times as Las Vegas is one of our bases....maybe what we saw was an optical illusion...but both the F/O and I thought it was an SP.....would never bring it up as a piece of discussion only we were surprised by the Virgin Colours.....maybe the piss the night b4 was the culprit, but I doubt it........see many "types" in lost wages and we could certainly be mistaken......if Virgin doesnt have a "SP"...They dont have an "SP".....thanks for the input men....PB

I was a crew member on that very flight and I can confirm it was a 747-400, G-VAST if I remember correctly. We don't have any 747SPs

Virgin Atlantic - Seattle Heathrow

Rumor is that Virgin Atlantic will start service from Seattle. Anyone heard anything to this effect. VS new route will be SEA LHR. Would make sense as BA will increase frequency and NW has announced that route as well.

Are you sure someone hasn't got it confused with the confirmed start of SFO-SEA and LAX-SEA on Virgin America, commencing March 18th 2008 ?

I can't see any sense whatsoever in VS going for LHR-SEA.

Until last year, BA (LHR) and SK (CPH) were the only european carriers in SEA.

This year there is BA, SK, AF (CDG), LH (FRA) and from June '08, Northwest commence non-stop from LHR.

That's a mega huge capacity increase even without VS gatecrashing the party, and yields can only deteriorate with the extra competition.

Sorry Stoney,

LH is not flying SEA-FRA, their only routes are FRA-YVR and FRA-PDX ( s far ). For me FRA-SEA would be a great idea.

LH has confirmed SEA FRA starting Spring 08.

SEA is seeing quite an atlantic expansion. AF started this year, LH will start next year, BA increased frequency this year and will continue next year, NW announced LHR and VS is the latest rumor. Not sure what is driving this but Microsoft has a lot of traffic in and out of the city.

Why operate LHR-SEA with the competition when YVR is crying out for more competition between London and YVR? At present there is a daily BA and AC plus odd services from Air Transat.

dont forget about the Zoom, Thomas Cook and Flyglobespan flights that also operate from London to Vancouver plus the regional flights. VS would restart YYZ before YVR i suspect.

there have been rumours on here before. cant see them opening a new base myself. they already have NY and LAX from LHR and LAS from LGW. would make sense to look at maybe twice daily LGW-LAS if there were sufficient loads and yields. maxjet were carrying what 70 PAX per day to each? Eos would have picked up some NY, and SJ a few as well. BA have been emailing me for my LAX business, so how many punters left to go round?

Certainly not enough to go around.

I am surprised that AA have started a STN-JFK.... wonder how long that will last!

As for VS stepping into STN - forget it! Expanding into another London airport is not going to feature very high on its agenda at the moment!

AA can't be doing too badly as I read that they are starting a 2nd daily flight from April.

I would have used it if I'd been organised enough to book before the fares for my timeframe went up too much. At one point the trip (including getting to/from the airport for four people) worked out cheaper than going to LHR. But I didn't, so it's the delights of the M25 at the wrong time of day instead. I'd much prefer a decent and competitive service to a well-connected US airport from STN than having the Heathrow Marketing Experience with optional flight at the end of it.
