1/ Will the north apron be expanded north up to hangar 129 to create a new executive apron for Harrods?

I was initially a bit uncertain as to how the Harrods hangar 129 plans fitted into the area around the cargo apron. I overlaid the plans on to a satellite image and I think this is where it fits in:
http://homepage.ntlworld.com/spencer...sHanger129.jpg

Given this layout, I struggle to see where the 10,000 sq.m. of apron space comes from - the triangular area right infront of the hangar isn't that large. Perhaps it will be extended a bit to the south west?

And isn't there a wall (significant height difference) seperating this area from the Cargo apron? Presumably aircraft will have to use the delta link to get to the new apron as current light a/c do.

How did you manage to get that Harrods map to sit over the satellite image????? You must be very clever.

Anyway Harrods claim that their new apron will be bigger than the old one although they did not lease all of the south stands. Looking at Google map, even if they knocked down all the old hangers in that area there still would not be enough room. The clue must be in the fact that Harrods do not show a new apron in their map, which might indicate that indeed the cargo apron will indeed become the new Harrods ramp.

So with the cargo building facing this apron how are Harrods going to get away from the image that their passengers are just cargo?

If the airport moves the cargo apron are they going to move the cargo building? If they move the cargo building and apron where are they going to move them to?

Why don’t Harrods just build a new building between the cargo building and their hangar? If they did that then their building would be on the same level as the apron. At the moment it is all questions and no answers.

Apart from a new daily Luton-Jersey, Thomsonfly are also starting a 3 x weekly Luton-Dubrovnik. This is interesting since Dubrovnik is one of three, new destinations expected to be launched from Luton next summer by Wizz.

For S07, Thomsonfly will continue Luton-Marrakech, although it reduces from the 4 x weekly(winter) to 2 x weekly. Prague stays at 5 x weekly. With the new daily Jersey & 3 x weekly Dubrovnik, not too bad from Thomsonfly.

Will Wizz launch Dubrovnik as rumoured for S07, in competition, or go elsewhere?

I have a copy of the book. It's hardback "The Story of Luton International Airport" by Jaimie Glass, 1988.

You are more than welcome to my copy as it's just gathering dust on a bookshelf. PM with your address and I'll drop it in the mail.

If TOM are reducing Marrakesh, it looks like FR are winning that particular battle.

Apparently, Luton Borough Council have just agreed that easyjet's new HQ/Hanger currently being 'transformed' at the airport, may stay "Orange", and will not have to be repainted in a more traditional colour. LBC would have liked the roof to have been painted grey but have now agreed for the full orange colour to stay.

Thomsonfly @ Luton

Great news for Luton, and Thomsonfly about the new routes.
Does anyone know what aircraft will be based next summer and what routes the aircraft will operate?

Thanks SAM-EMA

The Council didn't have any choice because it was fully consulted by easyJet before any paint tin was opened and the Council didn't raise any objection because there's no change of use. Pity LBC's people haven't got anything better to do with their time (and the council taxpayer's money).

No. LLAO wants to extend the Cargo Apron northeast-wards to the east of the existing cargo shed by creating four new narrow-body stands and building a noise bund along the northern boundary of this new apron area to actually reduce noise disturbance to the locals. Harrods will get to use the existing Cargo Apron and any redeveloped area to the west. An obstacle to be overcome is the difference in height of the current cargo stands and the area where the copper chopper lives (at least where it lives for another six weeks). Not sure how they're going to overcome this.

So what will happen to cargo aircraft when the cargo apron is handed over to Harrods? Is it goodbye to DHL?

A good question - especially as the 'hot' rumour is actually more demand and so an increase in cargo ops. Therefore, it's extremely unlikely that DHL's LTN activity will reduce - if anything, it'll increase. The most likley scenario is that Harrods will get to use part of the current cargo ramp, there'll be a modest extension to their Stand 62 area and the 4 additional cargo stands will be dedicated to cargo ops only. Presently, Harrods have use of stands 18 to 21 i.e. 4 stands. So if they get stands 31, 32 and 33 plus more space on 62 this should be of some benefit. As for helicopters visiting Harrods, it's perfectly legit for them the ground or air taxi along Taxiway Delta from/to the runway - it's taking off from the taxiway thereby using it as a helicopter 'runway' that's technically, not cosher.

Grrr

Hangar 89 had a number of panels replaced due to 'wear and tear', this was done apparently without consulting the Town Hall, so the planning folk met to decide if any action was required.

So what’s this I hear? The builders are already onsite and work has started on converting the mothballed section of the old terminal into a dedicated Silverjet terminal.

Interesting. The airport layout & road direction arrows on Silverjet's own website, do tend to give some credence to this. Anybody know anything more ?

Just looked at their airport map for Luton and I see what you mean Trust me, trust my source. They will use this area for a dedicated check-in and dedicated lounge with enough room for new services in the future if stands can be found.

Silverjet

Interesting developments - anybody know why the previously mentioned arrangements with Harrods have fallen through?
