Stobart

The hint was dropped on post 2756 14/8/15. News seems to travel slowly on the island.

How many aircraft will Stobart need to base at IOM to operate those Flybe schedules?

Two Y72 ATR72s will be based on the Isle of Man. A few flights will continue to be operated by Flybe themselves with the Dash 8.

Its after lunch at the Albie but lets get this right. Flybe close the base and screw the lives of crew and airport klingons, Aer Aran close their base and screw the lives of crew and airport klingons..................and now after showing massive inability to organise a drinks party in a brewery these same 2 outfits, now seemingly to be one entity, is going to open up a base on the Island? Tell me this is a post-sesh dream.

Just done a search online and can't find any flights from IOM showing as being operated by a ATR72 during November, December or January. Flights still showing as being operated by a 78 seat DH4

This is from another thread in AA&R:
If as reported elsewhere Flybe are dropping STN-IOM next summer ...
Thus the interest from Stobart?

PAXboy I was under the impression that Stobart were operating the services on a wet lease on behalf of FlyBe. The alternative, which you suggest, is that they are operating them on their own account as a FlyBe franchise "partner" (like Loganair) but I have yet to see that arrangement reported anywhere.

Just looking at making a booking from MAN to IOM and flybe website is saying all services are operated by FLYBE from 28th March onwards when you go through the booking precedure, where as before it was saying operated by Stobart Air for the morning and evening flight.

I agree that Stobart are leasing the aircraft to Flybe and operating on behalf of Flybe on Flybe services. A similar arrangement to Eastern operating for BA.

cc1 I agree that the website does currently say that all services are all operated by Flybe, however if you continue through the process the seat maps all appear to be for ATR72s, not Q400s.

BACF plan to increase the frequency on there LCY-IOM service to up to 27 x weekly for S16. That is compared to 19 x weekly during S15. BACF plan to use a E170 to operate some of the additional frequencies. The schedule is expected to be updated in the next few days.

British Airways to increase flights between London City and Isle Of Man - Business Traveller

Wonder if this increase in frequency has anything to do with BE dropping there STN service

It clearly has everything to do with FlyBe's actions, and probably also reflects the significant reduction in easyJet seats to LGW over a longer peak summer season, than in S15.

Well done to BACF if your info is correct.

I just hope that they manage to keep some of the fares affordable for the leisure market. The current lead fare of £49 single is a good deal, if there is reasonable availability.

The ATR is absolutely the WRONG aircraft for the IOM. Expect a lot more cancellations in winds as per the last few days. Brave is the person who relies on the fist flight out for connections.....

So the ATR is the wrong aircraft for the IOM because of the wind? Why, and what can the Q400 do that the ATR can't?

As I understand it, the Q400 demonstrated crosswind limit is 32kts on a dry runway, the ATR is 35 on a dry runway …

So why is it the wrong aircraft? Most aircraft struggle on the IOM in the winter with winds, as they do everywhere else ...

Can either (or both) the AT7-500 and/or the DH8-Q400 use the short cross runway at IOM?

...I'm sure I recall landing onto it in a (similar-sized) ATP in the Manx days...

The ATR can depart from the shorter runway if the wx conditions are acceptable, I don't think any aircraft land on that runway due to the high terrain on the approach

Yes the Q400 can also use the short runway for take off - I've been on one doing so.
