Cool Barrhead Travel

I guess they got a good deal as the terminal is almost empty.
Ryanair would be happy to see it completely empty of any sales outlets of course. More to spend onboard!!

Funnily enough using tour operators and travel agnets at airports is still very popular in Germany - notice recently at Dusseldorf, Cologne and Munich (has been for years at Munich).

It is probably just a failed attempt in Scotland that can work elsewhere...but I agree probably not in my native countries psych to book hols etc at an airport - especially one that has RYR as basically the main operator!

I guess they hoped that people dropping passengers off, or picking someone up would spend long enough at the airport to see the deals on offer and a little light in their head would think that next time it could be them being dropped off, so they go and book a holiday.

Also, catching people coming home, with post-holiday blues.

I agree that on my first visit to a German airport for many years (HAM), I was surprised to see how many travel agents had desks or offices at the airport. Dusseldorf and Bremen were particularly busy.

Not at all , my son bought a one-way ticket to Ibiza with TCX in there a few weeks back , £50 including in-flight meal and 20kg luggage. Good deal ?

Yep a cracking deal - guess at that price TCX will be withdrawing that flight next year! Not exactly a profit making utilisation of seat capacity.

It was a 753 so no surprise it wasn't full in June , particularly with several others on the route! Incidentally , EZY , Jet2 and RYR were all in 3 figures without the luggage !

Don't be fooled. Sure it's a belter of a deal, but TCX sell any last minute seats at a reduced rate, on the thinking that the passenger will spend £££ on the aircraft from the duty free or their BoB service. Most of the time it works well. After all, it's better filling a seat at a reduced rate and potentially generating some extra income; than leaving the seat empty.

Discussion started off with Barrhead Travel closing their branch at PIK. Topic progressed to GLA having a travel agent (and has had for a few years now). Hardly crime of the century.

Back on topic then.

Hardly surprising B/head Travel closed their PIK branch is it? It's not as if PIK has a bustling terminal to generate footfall and custom into the branch. Not trying to stir up trouble, but it's a fact.

When Sky Travel used to be there my neighbours used to drive down just to book their holidays there. Personally whatever airport I'm flying to and from the last thing on my mind at that moment is booking another holiday. I'm sure that another tenant will occupy the shop in time once the economy starts to pick up.

What happened to the old apron control room at the end of the pier? Was all boarded up when I was through last week. Looks fit for demolition.

Also the Spectators Gallery is open and forever empty but worth a look for the old wall photos and the paintings in the stairwell from my childhood. Too pedantic they were re-hung in the wrong order? Yeah.....

PIK's 2nd runway reprieved

Infratil's naked attempt at asset stripping PIK by selling off the second runway and surrounding farmland has been comprehensively rejected by planners at South Ayrshire Council. Their plans included 2000+ houses,
an industrial area, leisure facilities and a hotel.

Multiple reasons for rejection included incongruous development, road traffic issues, loss of prime agricultural land, environmental concerns, loss of amenity oh and a fact which became blindingly obvious this week - that the site is a low lying flood plain.

Despite Infratil's disastrous tenure at both PIK and MSE it is reported in 'The Telegraph' today that they now intend to bid for Stansted.

Do you have a link to a report on this or the application? I'd be interested to see what the plans were and I can't find it on S Ayrshire council's planning portal.
