With the serious problems still happening at Flybe on the Dash 8 and 146 with engine failures or contaminated air events occuring on a weekly basis, I am sure the company would have a duty to inform the market of the possible legal liabilities they have from sickness in crews and passengers. I have heard that their Chief Pilot was going to blow the whistle on the truth and got sacked a few month ago. Where are the investigative journalists ?

Re: Flybe to charge for hold baggage
From what i gather from one of my crew members is that if you are now intitled to 10kgs hand luggage on a 78 seater aircraft that is 780kgs spread in the over-head locker and i have a sneaky fealling that no matter whether it is a Dash-8 or a BAe 146, the overheads cannot take that load....

Re: Flybe to charge for hold baggage
That's assuming everyone takes the full 10kgs. Just booked the missus and I GLA-SOU (that is Southampton, isn't it? I normally deal with ICAO designators...). Just going for a couple of days so could probably have got away with a couple of 10kg hand bags but decided to pay an extra four quid to take one hold bag both ways. Decided we couldn't be arsed lugging everything into the overhead lockers of the 146/DH8 or whatever the equipment is.
Fare came to about £47 each return including the bag and credit card fees. Still a good fare, even if the original quoted fare was 88p each way Decided not to pay the extra to pre-select the seats...

Seems to conflict with this report which suggests at least 4 will be in service by year end

Dash 8 400
If the information is correct that they have deferred the Embraer it just as well they have received two more dash 400s in the last three days.
Will they have to bring in outsider companies to help with there new routes for the comming season or will some may have to be put on hold for a year??

Flybe to purchase 12 319's
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Flybe are in final talks with Airbus and are about to sign a letter of intent to purchase 12 319's. The company are said to prefer the 319 in the 154 seat configuration over the 737. The company are concluding the deal and the confirmed order is expected before Christmas. The deal which is similar to that of Easyjet are said to be delighted with the offer that Airbus has put on the table. The Bae146 will be phased out and returned back to BAe systems as part of the deal.

I am reliably informed that Flybe have already allocated the relevant courses for the E-195.
However it is my view and others nearer the airline that the Airbus A319 would be a more suitable aircraft ?

Of course the 319 is the aircraft better suited to their needs, but Flybe doesn't work like that. The 195 was bought for pennies and it enables Flybe to keep the squeeze on pilot salaries.

BA Connect will quickly demonstrate that cheap fares and expensive operating costs simply don't add up.

I completely disagree with the A319 argument actually. There are only a handful of routes that warrant something in the 150 seat category. the E95 will have just as low seat costs as the 319, and the E95 is more suited to bases like SOU, NWI and EXT, allowing them to increase for example, a 3 times weekly 733 flight into a daily flight.
The E95 was the right choice for BE.

Mike
