Or Plan C, looks like no cargo flights there til the end of September at least now, with the DfT inspection not happening til two weeks after it was supposed to re-open for cargo.

The biggest indication yet that passenger flights will resume from Coventry.
A front page article on BHX in a Birmingham business papers including the front page and a two page spread inside. This was an interview with Mr K.
What an opportunity to promote BHX. What was in it. Three pages on why Coventry should not be allowed to develop short/medium haul passenger flights as it would harm BHX long haul ambitions. Nothing promoting BHX just concern with Cov.
Now the old sixth sense detects problems here for Mr K. My bet is that as with Thomson a few years back an airline has been negotiating with both airports and BHX has lost again.
I will stick my neck out and as they are the only major without a Midlands year around presense that Easy will be at COV next summer with a similar operation to Southend.
To raise that level of concern with Mr K I bet its not a once a week Jersey.
The article is embarrasing.

I suspect BHX will win over coventry in deals with airlines but is having to keep its charges down. It is not that Coventry is going to take flights but that it makes it hard for BHX to inflate charges.

Of course BHX want CVT closed. It is a matter of getting rid of any competition. BHX is to engage in extending the runway and doesn't want any other airport to to even threaten their existing arrangements with any of their current customers.
Speaking personally I would love to see CVT operating fully again, if only to restrain some of BHX's money making efforts. I have a particular objection to being made to pay to drop of a customer of BHX in the name of "security". They took a grasp of the event of ten years ago ( understandably) until they got a grip of the situation. They certainly got a grip. A grip on the wallets of their customers and discovered a new revenue stream. This but one of such schemes they have introduced to fleece their customers. This is why we need them to have some competition in the area.
Sir P. has had a set back but I suspect that he will survive and get Coventry working again in what ever category.

Dawdler,
Referring to your passenger(s) as customer(s) then you are clearly transporting them to/from the airport for financial gain.
You are driving on/of of an airport's property for your personal financial gain, why is it wrong for the airport to decide they'd like a bit of financial gain for themselves whilst you go about using their property for your own financial gain?

I know that you like to take issue with my posts, but that is fine. However please read them before you comment and not make assumptions.
At what point did I say that they were passengers of mine? I was thinking of the thousand of holidaymakers who were dropped off by family members. Commercial operators no doubt clearly factor in any expenses that the airport likes to impose on them. I was lamenting the tendency of BHX to squeeze every last drop of revenue out of customers who are already paying to use the facility.
But never mind.

Sorry about that Dawdler but they are not customers of the airport, at the time of the drop off they haven't made any purchase from the airport, the fact of the matter is that they are the customer of an airline.
I'd consider it a charge for laziness, I've sat on the concrete blocks out there watching the comings and goings, just drop them at Birmingham International and let them take the monorail to the airport!

PF,
If you are going to be a pedant, at least be totally accurate with your own 'facts'. There is no monorail serving BHX, and there never has been.
Remember that 'passengers' have actually paid a PSC, which has been collected on behalf of the airport by the airline.
Anyway, back to the article - I don't see how CVT's European ambitions would be a threat to BHX's long haul flights. The real 'threat' is the question of whether or not the routes would be viable in the first place. MAN has zero flights to China, and the HKG launch never happened. They offer SIN, via MUC. MAN doesn't do West Coast USA either. LAS is predominantly a leisure route.
DUB doesn't benefit from Belfast because it has two airports, but because it has next to zero APD. It is also a much larger city and inbound market, so it is always going to offer a better choice of routes and frequencies.
I do wish they would stop quoting some management consultant's report verbatim. I mean come on, 6,194 jobs and 34,668 associated would be more accurate, surely?

A customer (also known as a client, buyer, or purchaser) is usually used to refer to a current or potential buyer or user of the products of an individual or organization, called the supplier, seller, or vendor. This is typically through purchasing or renting goods or services. However, in certain contexts, the term customer also includes by extension any entity that uses or experiences the services of another. A customer may also be a viewer of the product or service that is being sold despite deciding not to buy them. T

The schemes promise to directly create 6,193 jobs in the region, with a further 34,669 more posts in associated supply chains.

Getting to the Airport - Birmingham Airport
Birmingham International Station serves the airport and NEC, and is connected directly into the terminal buildings via a free 'Air-Rail Link' monorail system. The 'Air-Rail Link' operates between 0515-0200.

I think we are all fed up with these charges, but this is not something that just BHX is .doing, so I don't understand why you single out BHX?
They are all at it to claw back money, and if you think Coventry wouldn't consider jumping on the same band wagon in the name of business... ?
