Hey Groundhog. It was my pleasure to fly with ASW and if only they would fly into Exeter life would be a little easier for me and the Mrs but I will use Plymouth again. My only concern is that ASW don't over reach themselves with an expansion scheme. Take it easy guys....

There might be more acivity yet at Newquay for 2007.

Swiss operating a service via Jersey for the Summer season only on Saturdays instead of the direct service in 2006 there might be other happenings to come along??

Flybe do EDI/NQY during the summer months, loads were reasonably good last year but I don't think there is the demand for two carriers on the same route.

EDI to BOH or PLY (is that the right code for Plymouth) would be good though and would be more £40 than £20, Flybe's cheapest EDI/NQY fares are £34.99 by the looks of the website.

I would say that thier definatly is a market for an EDI service from here in PLH, however it would have to be like 4xweekly or somthing. And there is definatly demand for EDI-BOH. sO HOW ABOUT:
Edinburgh - Bornemouth - Plymouth service
that sure to be a winner.

Sounds good to me, and of course it's PLH not PLY

But isn't Air Southwest shrinking not expanding/Consolidating?

Crews at Bristol are only serving two destinations now (Well, in a couple of days)

Now all of you here discussing Morale how do you think that affects my morale? I joined a young expanding regional Airline....

Now add to that the Crap pay, being patronised and mocked in staff forums (Albeit not very cleverly) and all this for giving your heart and soul to try and make things a little better... Yes Morale is very low..

I have actually got a lot more to bitch and whine about but I know this is the incorrect media.. I'll just bottle it all up, get on with doing my job to the very best of my ability and Explode in my leaving Interview

Bok..

Devon-flyer.. Yes the Bristol Crew do seem like the part-timers to you PLH Crews doing your wopping 7 sectors, We do fly (Or did) 18-20 days/month

Given the Chance I'd love to do more flying out of BRS, given the chance. (More hours means more opportunities- elsewhere!)

Springbok:

They aren't shrinking. Yes they dropped one flight a day to NWI, but that's just routine "tweaking" - the kind of things airlines do all the time (often un-noticed!).

You say crews at Bristol are only serving two destinations now - but isn't the key thing is what is offered from a customer viewpoint - which is five destinations from Bristol. The airline has a decent presence at a booming airport, which is no bad thing for them.

Of course expansion and new routes and more aircraft and more crew are what we all like to see, but it's also a very easy way to put an outfit out of business in no time at all.

C.T.S.:

We are into the realm of semantics here, but the point I was trying to make was "shrinking" to me sounds like getting rid of aircraft, wholescale route closures etc etc. Cutting one flight a day is barely significant.

The other point I was trying to make was that whilst, yes, there may only be two destinations on the Bristol crew roster as pointed out by the previous poster, from a customer perspective there are five destinations.

I'm led to believe the bond works differently.
That it is a loan in your name not an agreement with the company. So if the company goes bust (lack of money) you are the on going to have to keep up the loan repayments!!

Any news yet from ASW about plans to pick up an aircraft or two from the BA/Flybe fallout? Now the deal is inked?
A couple more planes would be great for the company, building in some more slack for any problems and enabling them to look into new routes.

I'd love to see a Nqy - Lgw - paris service. But thats from a personal point due to business arrangements
As currently i either have to transfer to Heathrow or fly from Bristol because noone goes LGW paris anymore.

I fly for Air Southwest and can say the morale is the same as it always has been - higher than most airlines but lower than some!

One of the biggest and most recent issues which affected the lowering of morale was the promotion of two new DE captains to TRI/training Captains later to become TREs. Why this happened no one knows. Everyone in ASW has an opinion on this and mine is no different to most. MJ had the experience on the Dash and the experience as a trainer in BACX so in many ways his proomotion was justified although he had no senirority in ASW. The second person who received a TRI job was slightly different but somewhere there must be a justification for it.

The people who whinge and moan are all known to the pilots and management pilots. We all know who CTS and SBDreamer are and these are the people who get little reward in Air Southwest. You whinge and moan and it will go against you but if you put the hard work and the effort in and it WILL be noticed!

The growth of Air Southwest has always been questionable but lets not forget they have more thean doubled in size in the last 18 months or so. On the other hand there are many of us who see Sutton Harbour draining the money from the airline and putting it into more property which I know 110% of us disagree with. But what can we do? the MD doesnt listen.

I joined Air Southwest during the time of the 10k bonds and I can say that the new 20k deal over 4 years is definitely a hard pill to swallow but its alot better then paying for it yourself out of your own pocket. Should the company fail or go bust then the company will be the ones paying the bond back as I recall i received a letter from the finance chap. Iirc, it said i am only responsible for the loan if i leave the company volantarily - therefore redundancy is not an option.
Either way there is no way in a million years I am paying the remainder of my bond unless I get a job elsewhere!

I have my up and down days with Air Southwest but most of the time i just realise how little i fly for a half decent wage (it was terrible 16.5k ). Its a great training airline for the young, a great retirement package for the old and a bit of a questionable existence for the middle aged!

Good airline, good people, good crews, sweet cabin crew, good CP, questionable aircraft!

Thats my two penneths worth!

Absolutely no idea about that. Most of us would like to see them do a daily NQY-LCY but it will never happen.

Expansion in ASW is the best kept secret in the world. No one on here really knows anything about the plans except the MD and CP!

Bristol Base

With all the problems at the moment over Flybe takeing over BAcon could this be the time to put a big effert into getting more domestic routes out of Bristol.

From what we read into this, Flybe will find it difficult to compete on certain routes and there is talk of them not being at Bristol, so when the do of if it happens the final all clear to take over BAconnect will these routes they are operating now be droped?

It could be a big door for Air Southwest to open if all this does come about or is this some of the plan for the future.

Bristol

Once you get away from general moaning, this thread seems to break down into
a) I'm not getting paid enough - (although presumably you are getting paid what was agreed when you took the job)
b) Why doesnt this airline expand at BRS when Flybe go. Well maybe they do plan to for all I know, but from an outsider perspective a few small flies in the ointment
1) Flybe havent gone yet I believe
2) the routes to Germany/Swiss are a hell of a long way on a prop
3) Shorter routes to Edinburgh, Glasgow, Newcastle and Paris would all be competed by Easyjet - hardly a sure-fire attractive prospect for a small turboprop operator.

What is it precisely you would have them do?

Care to elaborate Tuna?
As for the level of my commitment and amount of hard work, I will be hard to beat. I take my job very seriously and put in 110% every time I slip into my cape...
PM me and we can discuss the finer points of my "Little Reward" Better still you obviously know who I am so grab me the next time you see me on Turn around..

As for your lack of morale.. It's not the same as mine... I happen to like both of the appointments, oops! the list grows.......

As a total outsider there are a couple of interesting points in here......
Never worry if the owners are draining the airline's coffers. Far better that than the airline draining the owners pockets.
One way Newquay in particular might grow its traffic is by expansion of connecting routes, especially those not operated from Exeter. It has been mentioned for example Air Southwest might look at Newquay to London City, sorry but I believe that unless things have changed since I was an airline MD that will end in tears. What might work though would be taking an existing route which terminates at London City and adding the additional sector IE: Brussels - London City - Newquay.

I am sure carefully researched ( I am available for an extortionate fee) there are candidates out there.

Finally remember too, expansion is not always a good thing and does not necessarily mean greater profits. Air Southwest have something most airlines would love and that is a core route which has always been a great moneyspinner.

Remember the tortoise and the hare......
