Well, historically, the only route NQY had was LHR, besides ISC and a once weekly ABZ that is, so if anybody in Cornwall wanted to fly anywhere then it had to be LHR and the route was viable.
Since then they've started other routes from NQY whilst the LHR (connections) route became dropped, I'd like to bet that a lot of the pax on the NQY/MAN/NQY route are connecting on to further destinations via MAN, LGW didn't work because it doesn't offer so many connections.
But what is needed is a codeshare route whereas they can book, let's say, NQY/HKG/NQY with the one carrier.

Phileas Fogg, totally agree with you with the codeshare suggestion, its a big shame that SZ never had a codeshare with BA on the LGW routing as this would of allowed onward connection on one ticket onto the BA Long and short haul route network ex LGW.
is it totally beyond the realms that BA might bring the LCY routing back with and EMB 170 ?
i do however think that SZ would be able to make STN work due to no competition, maybe twice a day ?
like i said earlier in the thread if SEN was to start for the tourist traffic i could see RE having a pop at it maybe once a day ?

In 1969 the Westward Islander used to fly LGW-LHR-PLH-NQY-ISC and by coincidence towards the end of our days as an airline we used to subcharter the Southend Air Taxis Cessna 336 when XHE or XXH were tech or we were short of crew. That is about as close as anything is going to get to fly to SEN from NQY!
I will usually fly to LGW to connect to Transatlantic flights and drive to LHR since it usually means going up the day before anyway. I would also connect over MAN but if flying short haul would prefer to drive to BRS or EXT. Cost is a huge issue though.
I really cannot see the need for year round services to or from the South East apart from those that already exist.
Since this is an ASW thread surely Eastern will now pick over the bones and the name of Air Southwest will vanish.

That's 3.5 hours from Newquay to Aberdeen next Monday for £198, or if you try and book the train....

May I be so bold as to ask what kind of demographic will be using a PLH/NQY-ABZ service for £198 one-way ?
My guess is that the leisure demand at this fare is likely to be low, and I wasn't aware that there is much direct trade between Cornwall and Aberdeen. So who is going to be paying to put their bum on these seats ?

Living south west of Newquay if I wanted to go to ABZ I would probably just drive to EXT which except when the grockles block the roads up would take about an hour longer and in the long run would still be quicker, more comfortable and cheaper.
If I lived in Newquay I make take a different view though. Anyway good luck and hope it increases numbers.

EGHQ You are of correct I drive past the turn off for NQY, just checked for ABZ on 22/03 one way and EXT with bags is £89 and NQY £173 including the stupid £5 fee. With £40 each way for fuel EXT is still nearly £ 50 cheaper and I would argue making two stops is neither an indication of quality or convenience. I would still fly from EXT and from Lansallos it must be even more convenient surely?

Forgive me Mercedes C320 Brabus diesel returning 30mpg ( with foot down), journey is 200 miles round trip at 1.39 per litre that is £35.97 excluding other costs. Sorry for the mistake!! What do you pay for fuel now in the South China Seas?

Off Topic but those cars are very fast without the Brabus chip! I realise fuel is expensive but my Dad manages to get 36-37mpg from his CLK320cdi and it can eve get 40mpg+ at a 70-75mph cruise (same engine and similar sized car) and that figure is including some 'spirited' driving. Or do you drive everywhere flat out?!!
On Topic now; I think many people from Cornwall would consider to drive to EXT an inconvenience if they can fly more locally. You also have to factor in parking costs as it would be quite a bit cheaper to just get a taxi to NQY.

To run a car costs circa the cost of the fuel doubled!
Put it this way, if a car costs 10k new and is good for 100k miles before too much maintenance needs spending on then 10k divided by 100k = 10p per mile, on top of the fuel, straingt away!
Then there's the tyres, the insurance (the more one travels the higher the insurance premium), the servicing etc. etc. etc.
To run a car costs circa the cost of the fuel doubled!
