Double standards by a company looking to get out early.
I don't see anyone benefiting from this - airline, staff, pax or city - apart from those who wanted PLH shut in the first place.
SHH must be praying for an excuse to shut shop early. If tefloning blame was an olympic sport, they'd bag a gold medal at next years olympics

Maybe there is some truth in the suggestion that easyjet are looking at it, now the most local competition is on the way out?

SHH have approximately £18million sat in their bank accounts from the sale of land around the airport. This money was supposedly for the redevelopment of the airports infrastructure. So where has it gone. SHH along with Eastern have had a preconceived plan for Plymouth right from the off.

Allow me to break news to you also - something which the local chamber and council are not happy with. SHH have refused to open discussions for a sale of the airport to another operator - it has become more apparent as to where the future is heading unfortunately and also seems SSH have had intentions for some time.

Im no legal begal but surely the sale of the land was now done under false pretences and surely is a breach of the Lease agreement. Also if this is true that SHH have refused to enter negotiations for the sale of the airport surely its about time PCC got off their backsides and showed a bit of fight.SHH run Plymouth and the council are scared of them. As for Eastern it looks like they have been a part of SHH plans and a return to Plymouth untill the airport closes seems highly unlikely.

Phileas Fogg at Bristol is about the only reason I can see easy at Newquay.

I, previously, couldn't stop laughing at Simon's expectation of NQY becoming a significant freight airport.
Freight needs to come and go by road, it is well known that laden LGV's hate non motorway roads, constantly changing gears, up and down hills, stuck behind convoys of caravans etc. and the nearest motorway to NQY is some 80 miles away and just around the corner from EXT Airport.

perhaps you should be the only one allowed an opinion on aviation and perhaps you should be the only one allowed to post on this forum !
However, as far as freight goes, the airport is now in the process of building an access on the RAF side of the field, is it really beyond the realms of possibility to see post arriving by air at NQY ? TNT & Fedex feeder flights ?
DHL / Yodel now has a fairly big operation in Cornwall.
clearly this isnt going to provide a vast freight operation, however NQY does seem to be one of the few airports in the country that doesnt sustain a post/parcel feeder service

Simon,
So what, the mail and courier traffic arrives by air ... at last Cornwall might be catching up with the rest of the UK in this respect ..... so this traffic requires a mega 9,000ft runway and the airport is about to break even, or even in to profit, relieving Joe Public from funding the Reggie Spotters of Cornwall.co.uk?

Of course it doesnt require a 9000ft runway for a few dash 8 flights, and the odd 737 !
but thats what NQY has got, so surely its better to support it than to bitch all the time about shutting it down etc
but hey, why should anyone else have an opinion, ill just toddle off and eat a pasty or something !

Simon,
All of us are entitled to our opinions ... including you ...
Simon ... how can a seaside town the size of Newquay possibly justify two commercial aerodromes ... one that makes a profit and the other that hasn't got a hope in hell of making a profit during our lifetimes?
Just asking

What? You mean there are other commercial licensed aerodromes in the immediate vicinity of Nookie besides St. Mawgan and Perranporth?
Check out the airfield parameters at Perranporth, a 05/23 runway of circa 5,500ft, or longer, seems perfectly feasible, suffice to support the Cornwall market, an upgrade of airfield lighting etc. then shut down the airfield and runway that was in place to support tanked up Nimrods taking-off on their umpteen hour missions ..... and noisy baskets they were taking-off too.
Am I talking rocket science or am I talking clear commercial and common sense?

your actually talking as if you have money in Perranporth !
are you seriously suggesting closing the doors at NQY and flushing x million quids worth of investment down the bog ?
the point im trying to make is that NQY is in place and its here to stay, i think we should all be supporting it
