Recently started to use Flybe LBA service which has proved friendly, reliable and cheap if booked a few weeks ahead. £60 is less than the cost of road fuel even for my 1.9D and neither airport subjects people to a terminal experience so there are significant journey cost and time savings.
Negs. are the sparse service (still not possible to day trip) although loads were good on both the Tues and Thurs. Similar comment applies to other routes which are limited and/or seasonal. Different at LBA which, despite nearby MAN and other serious competition, has Jet2 and many other operators going here there and everywhere to serve the 'local' market (including Islamabad !)

Hi

I am trying to complete a list of what charter flights, aircraft and airlines are operating for summer 08 now that FCA have taken on many of the services. I have detailed the ones I know of but if any one can contribute I would be very grateful.

Mon - FCA Funchal A320, FUA Las Palmas B738, OHY Dalaman A321??
Tues - KM Malta MD80
Wed - FCA Paphos A320
Thurs - FCA Faro A320, FCA Lanzarote A320
Fri - FCA Corfu A320
Sat - FCA Palma A320, JKK Palma MD83, FCA Ibiza A320, BE Verona E195
Sun - FCA Malaga A320, FCA Bodrum A320, XQ Antalya B738

Is there to be any Bulgaria, Tunisia flights? When do the LCA and RHD flights start and what days etc. A second Malta flight is due but I don't know when and what a/c.........any additional info very much welcome.

Thanks

Hi Air Hop

Thank you very much for your help. I have looked into it and British Jet ceased trading so KM will be operating the MD90 instead of the A320. I think this applies to both flights to Malta

Nice to see F50 in at Exeter - is it a one of flight or every week during the months you have stated.

Good to see ECA back with their ever delayed flights to and from Exeter. Will this replace FCA or will there be two flights to LCA this year?

Heya Guys,

Heard the new taxiway Golf being used yesterday, just wondering whether this is going to be added to the AIP next AIRAC?

Also, for the moment does anyone know if it is lit/unlit and if it joins up with the intersection with Echo on the old 02/20 runway?

Cheers,

Alex

Security Shambles

Still a small airport but security capacity (only one channel) is now woefully inadequate for peak departure periods and Flybe 40 minute check-in.
Flybe and other jobsworths were totally unhelpful, despite huge queue extending back into the check-in area, until someone worked out that PAX for flights departing in 10 mins (mixed-in with those whose flights were departing hours later) needed to be extracted from the queue and processed immediately. Result= more predictable but avoidable late departures.
No evidence of any Airport 'customer service' or personnel (despite the huge charges the airlines claim they/you are paying !)
On balance, still better than the 'terminal' experience of a big airport but Exeter and Flybe need to get their act together.
Anyone from management or security care to comment?

Hey Civil Aviation before spouting off your mouth and blaming the airline, it's got nothing to do with the airline. The airline is just as fustrated as you are with the security system in place and lack of staff provided by the airport operator and have made numerous complaint's to those that run the airport but to no avail.
The airport is allways complaining they have no money to recruit extra staff or to improve the security systems in place - BUT the airport operator managed to find the money to buy and run another airport (BLK), yet they cant run the one they allready operate.
So next time before putting finger's to keyboard and blaming people/airline who have nothing to do with the airport operation try thinking about what your saying first of all..

Flybe off the handle

2 appealing features here are small airport and Flybe 40 min check-in.
Both are undermined by the security shambles.
I said Flybe were 'unhelpful' i.e. at the time to their customers. Despite repeated requests, Flybe did nothing at the time when they might have sent someone up to Security supervisor to point out that their PAX for imminent departures were still waiting.
I accept, as you say so, that Flybe may have made 'numerous complaints' to the airport management but, in the light of no noticeable improvement, have they now reported the airport operator to the regulator or issued a critical press release or threatened to withhold the 'charges' we are told they pay for this mandatory service etc ?
I doubt O'Leary would tolerate such treatment of his customers but is the answer that Flybe and Exeter management have become too close and cosy?

Security lines and joint responsibility

I agree with the last post.

While it is fundamentally the airport who is responsible for Security and the staff, surely the airline's customer service staff should have the slightest bit of customer care to be able to step in and help their pax when they are caught up in these lines.

This should be even easier at a small airport, especially one where BE is by far the biggest customer.

But, don't get me wrong. EXT should step up to the mark and get more staff or at least offer pax a free cup of tea as compensation as recognition for their bad value for money they provide the pax for their security charges.

Civil Aviation - nothing to do with Flybe period.

If the queues are that bad can we assume you will leave more time next time you are through Exeter? Maybe use Flybe online checkin? I apologise if this seems somewhat harsh but it is so frustrating that the minority of people who have problems take no responsibility for their own actions what so ever....why for example did you only leave 40 minutes knowing that security is sadly still an issue at the moment?

Not my problem

I was there 50 mins before departure but...
Flybe, not their customers, advertise 40 mins. , apparently in the clear knowledge that 'their' airport has fundamental problems in meeting the target.
If it was advertised as 4hrs, then many would go elsewhere or drive or train.

Please understand I am not anti-airline but anti-airport i.e. the metropolitan monopolists (=BAA) and provincial parasites who have turned air travel into a terminal experience when an airport should be similar to a station.

I flew EXT- DUB last week, it took me no more than 5 mins to get through security screening, much quicker than other recent experiences I have had at BRS and LBA. The biggest problem I find are other passengers waiting to the very last moment before gettting their things organised and taking an age putting their belongings in the trays!

It is probably worth pointing out at this point that airports are a business and need to make money. LCC's (such as Flybe) bleed the airports dry on both landing fees and service charges. If you (as the customer) want the aviation market to be open to everybody with low cost fares then you need to tolerate the queues and hassle that go hand in hand with regional airports - sadly, you can't have it both ways.

You will also find that while you also have anti-expansion bods (or NIMBYS!) putting a stop to any proposed project, airports will remain in outdated and confined facilities. Rather than grumble on PPRune maybe you could write to your MP asking them why the airport isn't growing fast enough to meet the needs of its users?

Customers' Fault ?!

The last posting was virtual nonsense.
The fact is that there is still 1 (yes only one) security lane so at peak departure times there is bound to be a huge queue and the scenario described previously.
As for space- plenty for retailers i.e. profit centre for the airport operator.
How ludicrous to suggest that this problem is the fault of the passenger and the airlines when the cause is that this airport has ever-increasing numbers but isn't spending anything other than the minimum necessary to comply with statutory requirements.
Also, there is no obvious connection between l.c.c. and a terminal experience.
I encountered have no similar problem at STN or LBA so this is another case of 'stuff the customer' and greed rather than any lack of revenue or space.
In any case and although Flybe has a few cheap fares, if booked well-ahead, it isn't low-cost most of the time.

I agree that BE aren't a LCC (and my feelings on their business ethics are well posted on the Flybe thread), but as frustrating as airports can be for passengers, I can assure you that any expansion of facilities are even more frustrating for the airport operators. Why not check out the last couple of pages on the Bristol page?

You may argue that an airport shouldn’t accept routes that they cant handle, but then you wont get the passengers through and the expansion will be non existent and you will become.....well.....Plymouth Airport!

I don’t think anyone insinuated that it is the passengers fault, however, when you have a small minority of protesters shouting from the roof tops against a million or so passengers from the surrounding community who mainly remain silent then you can guess who will win!
The average person picks up an airport when they want it and then take it for granted that the facilities are there for next time!

Having worked for airport operators, I can only begin to scratch the surface of your statements, but to white-wash the whole operation as profit over comfort is ridiculous. I know EXT well - Where do you propose the extra search comb goes? Lets build an extension......oh wait.....!
