If they Ryanair do base more a/c at EMA any ideas about new routes? Some more Spain and Portugal would be good
I would agree that Spain & Portugal, with the exception of the really big resort airports, is quite underserved from EMA compared to other airports. It'd be great to see FR open up some of the regions that they have from other regional bases such as Seville, Santiago & Santander. Whether or not it will be incentive enough to get WW or U2 to expand, I'm not quite sure. As has been quoted, there are rumours of an undetermined expansion of WW over the next year exEMA, however what will become of this, or U2's future is unclear.

I wonder if the planned future expansion of baby out of EMA will be affected by the bmibaby MD's departure?

I hope easyJet expand in the future but I can't see it happening to be honest. I think NEMA will firmly become Ryanair territory in future years.

I think that at LPL FR serve 32 destinations with 7 aircraft based, so with 6 at EMA they could be doing well over 25 routes! Good good!

I wonder if any new RYR aircraft would take over routes currently operated by aircraft based at other airports e.g. SNN, CIA + GRO routes.

Any source to back up this statement? Whilst we've been made aware that bmibaby is reinvestigating expansion from EMA after a preference in 2005 for BHX, I've not seen any numbers or routes even been hinted at. Also, the bmi charters are back at EMA for their first year in sometime, I'm not aware whether Kosmar or Excel will have already made it definite that they'll use bmi again.

Mr Hogstadius repeated Mr O'Leary's promise that more planes could be based at the airport in the near future.

"We have 130 new planes coming between now and 2012 and they have to go somewhere. East Midlands is a hot candidate for them," he said.

By my calculations we'll need to concrete all of Isley Walton to park that lot........oh well.

Any idea how the Excel & bmi charters are doing?
Also, when are these new green checkin machines going to be up-and-running?

So far there has been no more information provided to us at passenger services as to when these new machines are due to go live, considering that the initial date was set to be the first week of May - which of course has come & gone. I'm presuming the issue is finalising the software between all of the different companies, training the airport's CSAs to use the machines, as well as organising the situation regarding baggage drops. As far as I'm aware, these situations are far from being resolved.

1) I can't believe that these CUSS machines are still not up & running. I was told by some people who work for the airport themselves that it was because of the successful trial of these machines by baby that the airport was so keen to install them. However, whilst these hideous things have been at the airport for over two months, there still seems to be no sign of anything being done, despite June holidays being just around the corner. It's a shame as well that a cluster of them have been placed right in front of the 767 check-in desks, no doubt this might cause some queuing conflicts. Might it not make more sense to line them up against the easyJet wall (and another set maybe by the baby wall) and then use the furthest desks as bag drops. Just a suggestion to keep down congestion if you'll pardon the rhyme.

2) I'm glad to see that the bmi charters for Kosmar are doing well. They (alongside Freedom Flights) had a horrible summer last year thanks to Air Scandic, so I hope things are running smoothly. I've been told that the based crews are now settling in nicely, and people seem pleased with the product. Does anybody know how the Excel flights are doing? They're getting a reputation for being plagued by delays at other airports, but on the screens at EMA I've not seen anything too dire.

3) bmibaby & Ryanair expansion which has been quoted in the press all seems very exciting after a comparably quiet 2005. Just a shame no more details have yet been leaked, but with the winter schedules going to be released in July, I'm looking forward to finding out.

JN is the code which is being used for the UKJet aircraft, although this apparently isn't the UKJet flight designator(operated by Viking under the AOC of a Greek operator called Skywings or something similar) but was instead Excel's scheduled flight code, ie for flights available to be booked as flight-only on XL. Apparently this is similar to First Choice's DP code for scheduled flights. Not sure if this is true, or if more can be found out, but that's what we've been told.

Excel have had some fairly lengthy delays, but these have been much further & far between to SCY who got off to a bad start as soon as they began flying last year. Hopefully the issues will be resolved, as Excel who were once one of the shining stars for punctuality, have begun to get a bad reputation for lengthy delays.

Are First Choice offering long haul from NEMA this winter?
In the latest airport magazine (Great Escape) there is a First Choice advert for winter sun destinations direct from NEMA this winter including Florida and Cancun?

As paul says, Holguin has been cancelled by FCA but Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic North (POP) has been added in place of. SFB is to go year round on a weekly service from the next summer season and there is a strong possability that CUN may become weekly over the winter of 2007 summer 2008 year round.

Thats the only info i have on new routes as it stands. I have also heard of a rumour about Jet Airways of India poss offering a thrice weekly service to BOM starting poss back end of 2007 early 2008. All other info i will share when i hear anything.

Thanks

Stu

Would that be for extra scheduled or charter flying, or both?
