Yea I've just seen that article. Interesting, unexpected development from baby. Perhaps they are trying to shore up their operation against Ryanair and/or basing an extra aircraft so Ryanair have one less stand available for a B738!!

EDIT: Do bmibaby even have any more aircraft due to be delievered?

Phil Shepherd, spokesman for Bmibaby, which has 19 routes from Nema, said: "We are looking to increase destinations from Nema in the next year." He said he could not give any more details.

19 destinations? Mis quote there i think.

It certainly is a misquote, bmibaby serve 11 routes from EMA (ALC, PMI, JER, FAO, AGP, CDG, AMS, EDI, GLA, PRG, BFS) with a variety of frequencies. At its peak, I think there were 22 destinations served, not sure what this report means with regards to the scale of expansion, but it will be nice to see some new routes after what's appeared to be a bit of a time of decline at baby EMA. Personally, I can see bmi regional staying to keep operating the BRU, but have no clues at all about what changes may take place.

Does anyone have any idea how the bmi charters are doing on behalf of Excel/Kosmar?

No news on the CUSS machines being launched, but the departure lounge PA system is now back up-and-running, with information desk now putting out their usual array of calls as well as airport-wide final call announcements.

I'm looking forward to hearing more about both bmibaby & Ryanair's expansion. It's certainly good to see WW expanding, perhaps they are beginning to wake up to the very real threat of FR. EZY will either get stuck in the middle, expand themselves, or move to DSA I should think.

Nottingham East Midlands Airport (NEMA) has experienced its busiest April in its 41 year history, with passenger figures for this month 23% higher than April 2005.
There were 346,151 customers arriving and departing from the Castle Donington site during this month compared to 280,997 during April 2005.

This year's pax figures should make for better reading than the past 2 years, and the Ryanair routes are certainly major factors in this.

Must say though that the April figures will be boosted by easter being in April this year.

Still keeping ear to the ground for bmibaby routew announcements - any idea why the MD has resigned?

DB left bmibaby with immediate effect as of last week, with the current MD of bmi regional, CR, now taking over the job temporarily until a new MD can be found. (Apologies for the number of two letter achronyms.) Not sure whether CR will be running both baby & regional, but we will be hearing more as it happens I guess, especially whether the new guy will come from within bmi as with the previous two MDs, or whether it will be someone freshfaced from outside.

I don't think DB's departure has anything to do with the expansion at EMA. After last year's decision to branch out, following a small while of decline after bmibaby's bumper 2003, I think the airline is ready to re-examine the home base for opportunities, no doubt Ryanair's arrival (and proposed aggressive expansion if LPL is anything to go by) has perhaps prompted an expansion. No news or even consistent rumours over what this proposed expansion will actually mean, but I wait with anticipation.

Should have been the Excel hybrid 5B-DBH as the other one (DBI in full alphajet livery) did the LCA-MME-LCA earlier....maybe that one is tech and waiting for DBI to get back to do the EMA one

Did they say anything about a timescale in the papers? Would be great to have more a/c based at EMA, hopefully will give other airlines a kick up the a*se to get expanding too!

If Ryanair do base more a/c at EMA any ideas about new routes? Some more Spain and Portugal would be good
