Aviance @ MAN
I don't know if it's true, but the word on the street is Aviance are pulling out of Manchester at the end of Sept, it would be a bad day if so, does anyone know anything ????

can believe it! out of man on the baby operation i have heard they have not been very good at all........
the de-icing incident over xmas would not have helped their cause - a very costly mix up, on their behalf, for bmi as a group,not just the baby operation in man, the delays exceeded throughout all the bases!! I remember sorting that problem out in ema! We had a/c grounded in man whilst the pax were coached for the jer and prg flight to ema, to be checked in MANUALLY by us that morning for operating out of ema on ema a/c. We only found out the pax (around 300)were on their way two hours before they arrived (start of shift at 5am) and believe me to get them manually checked in and boarded with about 5 staff on (due to the ema operation not being busy due xmas etc) was very hard work!!!!
So if they were going to leave MAN it would be in my opinion a very good thing! However that is my view on the management that ran it, not the lads who work very hard for them!

The writing's been on the wall for a while now. Ever since Groundstar/Swissport arrived at MAN with a full ramp product there's been intense competition and inevitably one company would lose out. Aviance haven't been pulling in the contracts and its no suprise if they do end up pulling out of MAN altogether.

Aviance doesn't handle bmibaby at MAN, that is now done by menzies. You're all correct about the shambles that was boxing day though, what a disgrace that was!

Aviance are still handling bmibaby at Birmingham (BHX) and as far as I'm aware everything at that base is going well.
Do you think that Aviance are in financial difficulties & will close other bases, or there are just problems at MAN?

basically on boxing day aviance forgot to order enough de-icing fluid up in man, as you can imagine this caused chaos to the bmi group as well as other airlines they handle/d. As im based in ema i can only comment on what i heard but most of our baby a/c were grounded in man for some considerable time due to this - same with the bmi a/c i believe!
It cost us alot of money as we had to accomodate pax by coaching them to ema etc to catch their flights, and then theres the i/b pax we had as well!!! As im sure youre aware our a/c do not have anytime on the ground so this caused a major problem. Plus the crewing changes that would have to be made.....
A big mistake that took alot of sorting out........... as i mentioned in prev post we had our work cut out that morning in ema, but as usual we coped and managed!!! You can understand the pax feelings on it all "how can you run out of de-icing fluid???" etc all this around xmas and new year when alot of people are visiting family, it doesnt look good!!! So no wonder they lost the contract!!!!

theres been a lot of talk and bull about what happened on boxing day - however it is worth pointing out that all handling agents ran out of de-icing fluid that day including airline services and i know that aviance used over two and half WEEKS supply in 4 hours - no-one can legislate for that so get your facts straight before criticising - pimpdaddy speaks the truth !!!!!

I worked in pax services for Aviance at MAN through last winter, when they had a decent line up of contracts:
Monarch
Air Atlanta (Europe and long haul charter)
Flyjet
Balkan Holidays
KLM
Air France
Turkish
Virgin
Delta
And of course ramp handling for bmi and bmi Baby.
I left at the end of April 2004 and soon after they lost the Monarch contract. Bit of a shame as there were some nice people who worked there, but unfortunately the main PAX handling operation was managed by a group of 'Lead Agent's' and 'Supervisors' who had no management training, and frequently mismanaged the staff (and on occaisions brought them to tears) on the check-in desks and at the gates.
Also, they were in the unfortunate position of having to take on staff that were totally unacceptble for the customer service role, and due to the salary, were never enthusiastic for the job, resulting in
off passengers, which eventually leads to off airline management.
I'm not very surprised they are close to pulling out of MAN, although it is a shame they couldn't get the motivation right by paying a little more and getting the right training for the supervisors.
