Jet2 selling the furniture
I've seen today that Jet 2 have sold Benair to raise cash.
They got £ 5.1 million pounds. The announcement on the Dart Group website says the cash raised amounts to £5.1m based on the book value of the assets sold, estimated to be £1.2m. The proceeds will be used to pay down existing bank debt.
Interestingly, the previous Dartgroup announcement mentions the purchase of two Boeing 757-200 aircraft and explains that the aircraft will be used to further expand the operations of Channel Express and that the cost will be met from existing cash and bank resources.
In view of previous postings regarding the financial position of Jet 2/Channel, it would seem from this latest move that PM is indeed selling off bits of the empire in order to expand JET 2.
So, wise or not??
Low cost operator - Mixed fleet 757 & 737??
Not exactley a Low cost model??

But you can't reliably reach TFS from LBA with a B737-300, whereas a B757 CAN.
There seems a shortage of suitable B733s to buy but there appear to be some good deals on B757s.
Is it more cost efficient to send one B757 to AGP or two B733s (the mid-summer period from LBA had three near full B733s per day to AGP)?
Many routes to the near Med are very well served by LoCos from most British airports but the next tier of The Canaries, Greece or Cyprus are still firmly in the hands of the Charter airlines. Perhaps Jet2 see a gap there to go where Easyjet probably won't follow.
How many 25 min turnarounds to Jet2 do anyway???
The B757 may not be a "proven" low cost aircraft yet...........
Jet2 might not provide that proof either but I can see the logic of their choice. Best of luck to them.

The 757 may not be a proven low-cost aircraft but it has served many charter airlines very well over the years - and don't they specialise in low operating costs to survive in the market?

If a 757 has 50% more seats than a 737-300/700, then a turn around time of 40 -45 minutes (25minutes + 50%= 37 minutes) would be equivalent.
Britannia used to turn 767-200s in 45 minutes, and those aircraft had 273 seats
If Jet2 wanted commonality they could get 737-700/800s on the used market, could they not? Those aircraft would have the range to fly 4 hours out of LBA. They would pay more than the cost of very old 757s, but the newer planes would have advantages.

I think you'll find these 2 ac are not ex Eastern and have RB211 535E4s so no upgrade required there. One was delivered to Air Europe the other to Air Holland both in 1988. PM is no idiot these ac are probably a cheaper way of doing the longer runs the 733s can't do out of LBA without having the expense of NGs. I'd bet he got them for a song. They'll probably be used on TFS and maybe cyprus who knows, but AGP is running at 3 a day ex LBA in summer I would bet 2 757 runs will be in order next year. Don't think Jet2 are selling the furniture either look at the Dart groups finances I don't think Jet2 are being propped up by the rest of the group at all in fact they are in profit. As I said like him or loath him PM is no idiot!

Anybody know why I can't find a Jet 2 flight to Amsterdam (from Manchester) after the first week of January? (I'm looking to fly in early March). They are not selling after 8 Jan, as far as I can see. Have they announced that the route is ending, or am I doing something stoopid?
