Grrr Mannion's first day at Aer Lingus

Bet it'll be a baptism of fire over the coming weeks for Dermot.
I'd love to be a fly on the wall when he meets Halpenny and his sidekick (dumbass) Christy.
Dermot has got to get the longhaul on the rails before the end of the month Dubai in particular or they'll have the same problems they had selling tickets with the Orlando route -which i hear is now full to the gills.
I believe he has a special anti Liz White zapper he got for a reasonable price before he left the Desert.
Watch out Liz !! if you ain't gone soon Dermo's tenure as Cx is doomed!

Best of Luck Dermot!

For all our sakes!

New Aer Lingus chief's first day

New Aer Lingus chief's first day

August 08, 2005 10:13
RTE

New Aer Lingus chief executive Dermot Mannion formally takes up his new post today.

Mr Mannion joins the airline from Dubai-based Emirates, where he has worked since 1995.

In a statement welcoming Mr Mannion yesterday, Transport Minister Martin Cullen described his arrival as another important step in the future of the airline. Minister Cullen said he had met Mr Mannion at the end of July to discuss current developments.

On Friday, the Minister appointed AIB Capital Markets and UBS Limited to advise the Government on the size, type and timing of the sale of a majority stake in Aer Lingus. The Government has said it will retain at least a 25% stake.

Fingers crossed SJ

I'm not sure there's much point starting up new routes before they get staff morale and the service product sorted out; if EI were to start to DXB tomorrow, people would just avoid them ... no PTVs, demoralised staff, poor service quality; EK -v- EI? Not a hard choice, even if it does involve flying via LGW, LHR etc.

What's the general view re DXB? Has a deal been done to keep EK out? If they do come in, it won't help DM's long haul plans.

As for Cullen, it's all very well to talk about a bright future for EI, but with no expansion on t/a flights and long haul eastward expansion likely to be frustrated (or at least undermined) by DUB's runway length, he needs to do a little more than just talk.

sorry, don't agree - the level of service in steerage on EK flights through the UK is really poor, your comments on demoralised staff and poor service quality are mirrored on EK flights. I reckon EI cabin crew would see the DXB run if it happens as a perk given it's long haul.

Apart from that, EI could get it's timing better for connections in DXB - typically, Emirates flights are delayed coming out of LHR and EK simply don't have their act together on their own onward connections - the timing is too tight, and you frequently end up being marched at high speed by one of the EK ladies from one end of the terminal to another in order to make an EK connection somewhere else in the Gulf, wondering if your bags are being processed at the same speed.

I do wish Mr mannion well in his new position. I would however ask him to decide if EI is going low cost or not....

Its low lost to Europe/UK, but to the US its marketed as a full fare carrier.....My recent experience travelling in Premier on 3 Transatlantics in the past 3 months.....

old aircraft in poor condition

older cabin crew with an appaling attitude

IFE equipment that never seems to work correctly and when it does it keeps falling to one side

a take it or leave it attitude with regard to food choice

The Business Lounge at Boston is like a dungeon, last time I was in it (end July), all they had were plastic "glasses"...so I went to the BA lounge and they had no problem using real glasses

The Lounge at LAX is shared and so small its incredible

Problems getting FF mileage on my account at a large number of European airports and 2 in the US, its now a chore trying to make sure points are credited

A total lack of interest in the travelling public who fly with EI

Before I get "Flamed" for ranting on, I apologise here and now, but gentlemen..someone must sort this carrier out, its a disgrace, at least with FR you know you will get nothing at all and you are told it upfront, EI sell an illusion that they are better and care....Oh Yea !!!

Mannion's letter to the troops is reported on in "de Paper".

Apparently,
his decision to join was based on an “unshakeable belief that, despite the challenges in the market, this airline can have a promising and profitable future.”
If his unshakeable belief is based on these foundations, god help us all if he leaves the airline business to go into construction!

i have always found ei cabin crew to be friendly and professional, you have to admit they have had it tough over the last number of years but continued providing excellent service.

oh...according to the irish times newspaper the average age of an ei cabin crew member is 27....with 6 years flying experience!!!

To be honest, I could not care less about them having it tough over the past number of years!!!! That is no excuse at all for slovenly, rude and abrasive service to passengers

Further to my previous comments about the IFE equipment on the 330, a friend flew from Boston on the evening of the 9th back to DUB via SNN and guess what...surprise surprise, his IFE system, at his seat was US. Not just that, but he felt that as a passenger in premier class on the flight, he was intruding on a end of service get together for a crew member

If EI does nothing about its premier service, in no time at all....it will be a total disaster, as opposed to being just a disaster at the moment

Why the company cannot get the balance right between economy and a business class is beyond me

Aer Lingus is losing high yield pax hand over fist to other carriers

The only thing that is holding high yield pax is the direct NY/ORD/LAX svc....pal of mine who has more money than god brings his own sambos and brings his lap top......tries to forget the inflight service, never uses the IFE's hence he dont get upset. It says it all when meals are served and punters take out their sandwiches!!

ei offers the lowest business class transatlantic fairs...just priced orlando for october, prem fare is 1800 euro return... ba club world is 4200 pounds stg return....massive price difference. i have had the experience of u/s ife screen and agree that it is completely unacceptable, however thats only happened once to me and i fly ei prem on business at least once a month....the low fares keep my accountant very happy!!

EI may offer the lowest T/A business class fares, but my god, they do not, in any way, offer a business class service, by no stretch of the words "Business class"

Business class is not just about the price of tickets, its also about service and comfort. EI win hands down on price, but are not even at the races as far as everything else is concerned.

Please tell me, how much does it cost the airline to ensure that staff on these flights are friendly, caring, and attentive to passengers, whether they be in business or economy class.

As a fare paying passenger, I could not care less about the problems and hardships that staff have to endure, but please, do not take it out on me when I am flying with you. I have enough of my own worries in my life and job

Surely Mannion's CV would suggest he may be the best man to put a shine back on a workforce that are simply dying for some positive management, encouragement, and self-respect.

Don't let me down Dermo!

Shamjet;

I really hope so, this can be a wonderfull airline again..if only someone would take an interest to develop it, remember..it costs nothing for staff to be courteous to passengers and its the one thing that pax will remember about a flight...the staff
