Aurigny To Shrink Again
I've heard that Aurigny are to shrink back to their core business of inter-island work. Saab 340's are going to be retired and all mainland routes to be suspended. Surely not......what about the ATR-72's and the routes to LGW. Bit of a dramatic turnaround?? I know that alot of business is seasonal and the Saab340's aren't the most reliable a/c around. IS this true?

I dont think that its any secret to those in the know down in the CI that GR are 'downsizing'. EMA/BOH/BRS/MAN all gone or going.
Apparently the States of GCI are flaunting GR to anyone that'll listen, and are looking to recoup the £4-5m approx (apologies if this figure is wide of the mark... its just what I've heard) that they invested and get off a sinking ship, which IMHO they unlikely to get anything near. They have the added problem of trying to protect the LGW slots.
Load factors are down against competition (BA/FlyBE/Rockhopper) and forecast loads for S05 not exactly rosy. I also understand that some of those that advocated the purchase by the States of GCI, are still involved in the political arena and will no doubt be looking to save face.
All in all it would appear that it's not going to be a pleasant time for Aurigny over the next few months, with a degree of uncertainty for all. It's a shame.

Just to clarify matters. Aurigny is to shrink but the ATR-72s are staying and a further ATR will be acquired. The Shorts 360s and the SAAB 340s are going. GCI-BRS, GCI-MAN, GCI-STN and GCI-LGW are staying. All JER-UK routes are being axed along with GCI-BOH & GCI-EMA.

Just a thought. Im aware Aurigny has been around for ages but if I was looking to book a flight to Guernsey then the name Aurigny wouldn't be my first choice and no doubt you would have to rely on search engines or a well informed travel agent.....yeah right!!.........
Keep the name for the inter-island stuff as most people in JER/GCI will know Aurigny but maybe revert back to Guernsey Airlines.COM for the rest??? Maybe that would sort out the decline in bookings??

re resignation
Yes the rumour that Hart tried to resign is probably true...the reason he wasn't allowed to leave was that he got a very nice back pocket payment from the states of Guernsey when they "took over" the airline.
This 'non rumour' came straight from the Hart during a golfing tournament.....oooppps.
Pity the Guernsey evening press weren't caddying!

Plans on the future ownership of Aurigny should be going to the States in April. Apparently six companies are now being considered to become involved in the airline's future.
Aurigny says the LGW route is going from strength to strength. 28% increase in 2004 over 2003. 40% increase during December 2004 over 2003 and 60% increase in January 2005 over January 2004.
Apparently the on time performance has greatly improved at LGW as well.
Lets hope things improve and calm down a bit, the Islands need Aurigny which has served them well over several decades.
