Britannia Flight

Hello guys!
On the 15th August I am flying from BHX- Cancun with Britannia, returning on the 29th. What aircraft will I be flying on?

I know that Britannia currently don't have PTVs, but is it true that they are getting them this year?

Is the BY pitch good for an 11 hr flight AND IS THE FOOD GOOD

I would really appreciate it if anyone can fill me in with any info.

Thanks,
Freddie

Whilst its probably too soon to know which particular aircraft it will be, I am 99.9% sure that it will be a 767-300. If you ask a few days before you are due to fly, there might be someone who works in Britannia (sorry Thompsonfly) ops or Servisair at Birmingham who will have the aircraft reg for you.

As for the sea pitch, I think it’s about 29", which isn't great. Service is great, as always, from Britannia (opps Thompsonfly). Food is of the typical charter quality so a postage stamp will provide a better meal. That is if you have purchased meals.....

Aircraft: More than likely a 767-300ER.

Seat Pitch: Excellent if your 4ft tall (Unless they have improved alot since i last flew on one of the 76's a few years back).

Food: Average charter airline food, perfectly edible.

BY are a good airline with a good record, the only thing that let them down was the seat pitch and the TV's in the aisle ceiling which you can't see from most seats!

Hope that kinda helps.

Matt.

Im also due to be going out to Cancun from BHX for a well earned break in July I was told when I booked my holiday there was a tech stop in Man outbound i presume this is due to the runway legnth at Bhx does anybody know how long the stop will be for and will we be going to the terminal or just going to one of the remote stands for extra refuelling.

Cool

Hi guys, thanks for all you replies.

737James, I heard too that we were stopping in Manchester. They said for about an hour, I hope you don't have to get off the plane! I reckon it is because there is not a large enough load from BHX so they have to go to MAN to pick up more people?!

First Choice look like a much better bet to CUN in S05 with their re-vamped long haul product on the 763 (bigger seat pitch, PTV's etc)

I believe they will be flying to CUN from NEMA, as well as MAN and LGW.

Having experienced their previous product on LGW-CUN just over a year ago, it'll be a welcome improvement....not that service wasn't ok, just that previous config (2-4-2 across, 29" pitch) was way too cramped for a 10.5hr sector

....and 1K GBP way to much to pay for a family of 4 to upgrade to the front cabin.

Agree with the above post.

Flew LGW-PUJ recently and although the outbound wasn't bad, the return was a nightmare. 767 both times so I'd imagine Cancun would be the same. You can pay the ludicrous upgrade price to get a premium seat which gives you your own TV, bigger seat and free drinks. Food wasn't bad apart from the dodgy breakfast meal.

On the return flight the cabin crew seemed to forget that most people want to sleep on a night flight.. not sure if it's me being picky but I would have expected lights down after the film and evening meal at about 0100 but instead they spent about 3 hours selling duty free, noisily passing stuff between the aisles over passengers heads etc.

Eventually they turned the lights off at 0400. However they left the film running, and as it was a bright, noisy action film you could still easily hear people's headphones and see it on the TVs around the cabin just enough to keep you awake.

Then to top if off lights were switched back on one hour later and we were served with a crap breakfast (frozen melon and cornflakes with local Dom Rep UHT milk which I think is still having a party in my stomach)

So, in summary, the 2-4-2 layout = cramped seats, only 4 usable toilets, one crossover point and constant peddling of duty free, drinks etc ensure I will never fly Thomson/Britannia again. I certainly had great amusement amending my questionnaire after the flight. You get what you pay for!
