Hmmmm.....the population of northwest England is ~7million. Plenty of scope to support two FR routes. Certainly, there is a large enough Northern Irish diaspora there.

I do agree however, that some sort of expansion by BE would be most welcome. If FR do avoid MAN, hopefully BE will extend it, and add BHX if (when?) FR drop it. A 3/4 per week to Bristol would also probably work.

It'll be interesting to see if flights are actually extended year round to MAN now that the drop down list has extended. Hopefully it'll eventually operate 7 days a week... even better if it is then operated by an Embrear.

BHX probably has been dropped from October. I hope BE does take it on, and not avoid it like they did when BmiBaby abandoned NOC - MAN. (BE carries c.30,500 pax annually between INV & BHX with a INV based aircraft.)

Next route from BE would be EDI I think. If that proves itself, and BE continues to expand there, we'll might see BRS introduced via a 'W' service by the EDI based aircraft, just in time for the city of culture.

Fingers crossed for the situation at LGW to be sorted out by 2013 so it could join the schedule too!

It is unwise to presume anything when it comes to Ryanair. Birmingham had a higher load factor than Prestwick during May (the last month for which figures are available) so I wouldn't jump to any conclusions about not being able to book flights four months ahead.

As for Ryanair to Manchester, not a chance, they cut and ran last year out of Manchester.

On another point, I flew out of BFS last Thursday and was told that my clear plastic toiletries bag was too large (by only about an inch) and was told that I would have to buy one of the airport supplied bags. I refused on a point of principle as it clearly had nothing to do with security and only to do with money as they were about to x-ray the bag I was using so long as I bought another bag from a machine located after security before they would return my tolietries. Upon refusal my toiletries (including my tooth brush and a razor which aren't liquids) were dumped in the bin despite all being under 100mls. Nice!

The previous week I had had a single item of toiletries confiscated because it wasn't in a bag even though I didn't even have any luggage. The 50ml hand gel was my luggage.

Lucifer will be ice skating on the river Styx before I use BFS again.

Amelia, it seems inevitable that FR are announcing a base at MAN any day now (another truly incredible u-turn from them).

I had the "pleasure" of flying BFS to BRS at the end of June. BFS truly is an unpleasant place. New shops don't help. Nor does the attitude of the staff there.

I could tell my flight was delayed by an hour (the only obvious inbound which arrived 25 minutes before departure was delayed), yet it took the lovely people at BFS right up until departure time to update the screens with this news. It made no difference to me as I was staying in Bristol that night, but one couple were heading to Cirencester and their friends had already left home to collect them from BRS.

It is the small things that make travelling through an airport bearable. In my experience, the small things are sadly lacking at BFS.

As an aside, what if you see Hades ice-skating on the River Styx?

How bizarre!

There is no LDY route though right Jamie?
That would be a disaster! If LDY is to progress it needs a smaller second carrier to handle the routes that are too small for Ryanair. Manchester does not happen to fit in that category of route but after Ryanair had shown no interest in LDY-MAN it would be disastrous for LDY if they only did so now that another carrier has. What kind of message would that send out to other potential operators?

Best leave well alone at least for now!

My point exactly! FR storming on the scene would mean a decrease in rotations to LPL, week numbers at best on their MAN service and the possibility that BE would be scared of for another 16 years!

More routes from BE please... ta.

Have no idea of what routes there will be but hope LDY is not one. Same goes for SNN.

Nothing exciting from RYR, just a route change/swap. BE's is a little more exciting though. Yeah Jamie 1st ALC tonight.

Great news, a swap is better than a drop and good things are going well with BE. Should this swap vacate a certain airport could a certain airline be taking up that route? Hypothetically speaking of course.

Northern, BE taking up BHX wasn't mentioned in the conversation but it could happen when RYR vacate it from Nov.

Cuthere, i enjoy the speculation!

Ok, RYR are to drop BHX for EMA. This is from my mate who works for them in Dublin.

BE are to make MAN year round and also add direct EDI & LGW.
