Yankee looking for African Gig

How's it going guys?

New to the forum. Currently in the sunshine state (Florida) USA. Interested in flying in Africa. My experience has been all corporate.

Faa ATP, CFI, CFII, MEI. Type ratings in DA10, DA50, CL60. And a load of time in King Airs.

A few questions.

Do I have to convert my license? Any possible leads?

Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Adios Amigos!

In the jungle, most nations will endorse your FAA ticket.
Some ministry gorilla might (upon payment of a "commission") issue the papers.
As an example, Congo/Kinshasa...
Some nations where civilization exists with the CAA, might require some paperwork.
As an example, South Africa.

My advice for Africa. Get paid in advance, a return ticket in your pocket.
Non-payment of owed salaries... is a 3 days notice... then say goodbye.
To date, I am owed US$5,000 in Nigeria, and about same in Angola.
Both from some 10-15 years ago... Despite being very careful.
And for Congo/Kinshasa, terms are simple. Payment IN ADVANCE, CASH...

Good luck to you -
:ok:
Happy contrails

Where to start in Africa......

Start by looking somewhere other than Nigeria. Place is ready to implode, they dont pay bills, kidnappings getting more common and vicious resulting in death whether they get paid or not - government is corrupt, CAA is no better than Ghana or the other banana republics - they are the next country to have their AC banned in EU and beyond - big oil is getting fed up and some are pulling the plug. It is becoming another Somalia with no laws and lots of piracy and kidnappings.

Stay away from likes of IRS and a few others or, get 1.5 months in advance and soon as you hit the hours for the $$, give them one day to cough up or leave. DO NOT accept payment in Nigeria jingle - its becoming worthless on the open market and forex is going to KILL you with fees.
