Virgin Atlantic

Thunderbird 3,

Many apologies, you're quite correct of course. It was only the arrested crewmember who was Nigerian.

Just in from the Rumor Mill:
VK pilots have threatened to quit the company if management pursues the Embraer romance. Apparently, they see no future in being "downgraded" to EMB170/190. Pittiful attitude by the pilots, if you ask me! The 190 is a full-fledged, wired airliner, why it's being perceived as a fly is beyond my comprehension.
Another insider/blogger is saying that management is now leaning towards the following:
4 737-600
2 737-800
? x 777
? x 787 (later)
Well, with this proposed narrow-body fleet size they could hardly serve 12 destinations! What's going on? Revnetwork?

i dont think any serious managment will bow to what pilots want to "fly",but what will make money, after all thier pay rise or wefare is based on the profitability of the operation, and so if the economics of the EMB170/190 sound good, why not
Its a myopic way of thinking,to make an airline fly around with half empty seats/just because you want to fly......
From thier load factors i hear on ATC I would think the 733 is only suited for abuja/accra/owerri,while kano/sokoto and dakar/douala is more suited for the embraer family
By the way the EMB190 is about 20seats short of the 733 so whats all the fuss?
Tosterone overdose?

Thumbs up E-JETS

The E-Jet family E-170 TO E-195 are the way to go.
Ultra modern FBW a/c which first flew in 2004, they are even more advanced than the present crop of Airbus'.
Fuel burn is approximately 15-20% less than the 733.
Have larger seats [no center seat]even in economy with as much carry on luggage space and hold baggage space as the 733 for the same number of pax relatively speaking..

It looks to me like a win win situation or maybe, just maybe the pilots have not heard of them .

Seat range is 70-120.

WHERE DO I SIGN UP!!

Rani,

Whoever told you VK's pilots are against the acquisition of the Ejets is feeding you crock. Nobody is even talking about it. everyone is so busy at the moment, that there is no thought to the said "planned" acquisition.

Ejet deal

NDB,

I wonder, why then, the deal does not seem to be going through with Embraer then...perhaps the aquisition / retraining and other costs are to excessive to justify to the board.....perhaps!

Everybody is talking about buying more planes, nobody is talking about expanding lagos and abuja airports or upgrading the facilities on ground.

With the influx of more planes, and no facilities, turnaround time will be too long and it might mean loss to the airlines

MD12,
With the proposed change of Aircraft type, to Ejets from the B733,only type rated 733 pilots are being hired for now,and that process is rather slow.
Roster patterns are out the window, the guys are flying a lot that is all i can say on this forum
Pay F/O just slightly under 4000usd;I guess you have to wait and see, when positive news comes out of VK on the type to be chosen etcOr if you want to fly a Boeing ,go to Mr Arik ,he is hiring Non typed on the 737 and crj still.
Happy hunting !!!!

Lifestyle/Roster

I have an invitation for interview next month and would be very interested how people experience their lifestyle with VNA. Also curious about roster, vacation and housing (i'm an expat).

Thanks to all for the information so far!

it all depends what you are looking for,are you type rated on the 733,Left seat or Right seat, have you lived and worked in West Africa as expat...
Lagos will be your base.... and it is a City which requires a lot of tolerance and understanding,.....Dont expect living in Singapore stlye. If you require specific elaborations send me a PM.
Good luck

18L it is expected that,VK will try to retain Cockpit crew given the number of resignations of late. From a Management point of view, one assumes that a look in at the salary......is aimed to keep pilots,as well as attract new ones.
Salaries are not everything....enough has been said on the various threads on pprune for us all to know, that other major DRIVE away factors, are still present in Virgin Nigeria.

fish

Then hopefully these so called drive away factors will also be driven out the door by the new virginnigeria team.

Would be a shame to bring in pilots to operate for them only to loose them to their competition again due to these factors.
